Ottis Day Receives Bronze Star for Leyte action
Technical Sergeant Ottis G. Day of Comanche son of Mr and Mrs W F P Day has been awarded the Bronze Star Medal for meritorious achievement in the Philippine Islands. His unit reorganized quickly after an artillery hit during a heavy attack at Leyte Province from October to December 1944. Day led his squads with aggressive leadership while under fire to renew the assault within an hour.

Father Son FFA Banquet Held in Comanche
The Comanche FFA Chapter held its annual Father and Son banquet on Friday night April 13 at Cunningham Reunion Grounds. About seventy five attendees including fathers heard a report on the past year and plans for the coming year. Calf projects earned about 1800 dollars last year with a list of members planning calf projects and several registered dairy, hog projects and a 30 acre sowed Austin wheat project.

Singing Sunday Night at Gartman's View
A singing event at Gartman View is set for Sunday night starting at 8 30 with Thed Woolsey in charge. Singers from outside the community are expected and attendees are asked to bring song books. Crickets produce chirping sounds by rubbing wing ridges together. An estimated bee travels about 43776 miles to collect one pound of honey in 29184 drops.

Mrs. Nancy Weigel Dies in Nebraska
Mrs. Nancy Weigel aged 78 died at her home in Beatrice Nebraska on March 26 after a brief illness. Funeral services were held there March 28. She was the widow of Wallace Weigel longtime yard master for the Union Pacific Railway. Surviving children include Mrs Rae T Hoff of Comanche and two others, Mrs B A Goble and Mrs G M Luberger.

Corporal Hattie Mae Hampton daughter of Mr and Mrs D G Hampton of this town is on furlough from the WAC after more than two years service. She is stationed at Ft Des Moines Iowa and visited her parents during the week. M Set and Mrs Thomas C Ferguson of Camp Fannin also on furlough visited here with the sergeant s mother and aunt before continuing to Burnet and Austin to see relatives. The recent freeze did little damage to local fruit and gardens.
