J. T. Mays Heads Stephenville Chamber of Commerce

J T Mays owner of a Stephenville furniture store and of a hardware and furniture business in Stephenville was elected president of the Stephenville Chamber of Commerce last week. He opened the Stephenville store in 1943 after moving from Mineral Wells and also ran the Comanche store last year. He has long been active in civic affairs and previously led the Mineral Wells Chamber of Commerce.

Notice to Parents of Crippled Children Eastland Clinic

A clinic for crippled children will be held at First Methodist Church in Eastland on April 26. Comanche County Judge H D Lane says the Crippled Children's Division of the State Department of Education sponsors the event with top specialists to examine and recommend treatment. Parents with eligible children are invited to bring them to the clinic for examination and referrals.

Pfc T A Barnes Wounded in Action in Germany

Pfc. T. A. Barnes Jr son of Mr and Mrs Albert Barnes Co Manche was wounded in action in Germany on April 1. He served in General Patton's Third Army and was in a scouting car shelling incident. Evacuated by air to a Paris base hospital he reports full use of his body though with internal injuries. His wife and two children live in Ballinger.

Sergeant Lonzo Horton of Comanche Route 2 suffered slight back injuries when he had most of his clothes shot off during combat in Europe. A letter to his parents reports he is receiving treatment in an Army hospital and is doing nicely.

Kennedy Named Manager of Local TP&E Co

Brownwood native Jewell Kennedy has been appointed manager of Texas Power & Light Company in Comanche succeeding Henry Kemp. Kennedy, an able longtime Brownwood office employee, had been acting relief man in Comanche during Frank Ray’s absence after a fall injury. The utility is highly regarded in Comanche and has historically aided community efforts with donations and occasional rate reductions.

Joe Tupin, appointed trustee, won a three year term in the Comanche Independent School District election. Roy Brannan was re-elected for three years. Voters total 317 with Tupin 234, Brannan 219, Huntington 111, Carpenter 94. holdovers Ira Clemons, A. P. Burks, Jack Moore, Armstrong Cox, Porter Franks continue on the board.

Sutton Dudley Boys Register Aberdeen-Angus Herd

Local druggist and rancher Sutton Dudley bought 47 registered Aberdeen-Angus cattle from E H McCullough’s Millerview ranch, acquiring 10 cows 6 calves and a herd bull.
