Hog feeding study shows protein needs vary with weight

E F Ferrin of the University of Minnesota swine division led a 14 week self fed test with seven pig lots. All started at 50 pounds and received tankage and soybean meal with alfalfa to supply B vitamins. An 18 percent protein diet bested 15 and 12 percent as pigs approached 100 pounds, with lower protein causing slower gains and greater weight variation.
