Legislature to Die Wednesday in Lincoln
Lincoln Nebraska lawmakers near adjournment with a final agenda to tackle two big items the criminal code revision and the school aid bill. Gov Exon seeks to veto both in a way to keep tax rates steady while the state board faces $20 million in school aid. Committees finished early enabling early adjournment but time ran out for many bills. The total appropriations approach one billion dollars, with fiscal restraint driving decisions.

Questions on rotating ballots eyed for cost savings
Lincoln Neb UPI Secretary of State Allen Beermann says eliminating candidate name rotation could save about 1.5 million dollars statewide. Lancaster County Election Commissioner Bill Davidson notes rotations cost 8,000 to 10,000 per election and questions any edge from being listed first. He cites May 3 results in Lively where first place did not yield most votes, with John Robinson finishing third overall. Beermann points to Texas style random draws. Douglas County study agrees name position has little effect. A 155 mm howitzer, developed jointly by Britain, Germany, and Italy, with 6 1051b shells per minute range 20 miles, may go into service before 1980.

Lincoln Neb Gov J James Exon on Monday accused Columbus Sen Donald Dworak of being misinformed or peddling false information about Nebraska's abortion law and the four part criminal code. He said even if the legislature overrides the veto the measure would not take effect until July 1 1978 and urged sustaining the veto and reworking the code in 1978.
