Nearly seventy people gathered at the Veterans Club in Albion to celebrate the American Legion anniversary. Lou Adamis, past state commander and national committeeman from Belgrade, spoke as guest speaker. Three charter auxiliary members Mrs Elsie Watson Mrs Nell Krause and Mrs Nat Lehr were honored, with Sam Foehrer introducing Dr W R Nay for membership work and Hazel Townsend recognized for district president service. Representatives attended from St Edward auxiliary and post Columbus Norfolk Belgrade posts and Elgin Belgrade auxiliaries.
Leigh Colfax County Association for Retarded Citizens met at the Legion Hall to view the film Time is for the Taking presented by Don Jedlicka and Mrs Elizabeth Ostrander of Schuyler. Delegates to the state convention in Kearney April 26 28 will be Mrs Gerhard Gross Mrs Charles Verquisz Dottie Jedlicka and the Rev Willis Taplin. The group voted a donation to the National Association for Retarded Citizens research fund. Lunch was served by Leigh Garden Club members.

The House approved a bill raising the minimum wage from 1.60 to 2.00 this year for most workers, with a path to 2.30 by 1976, and extending coverage to about 56.5 million workers including some federal state local employees and domestic workers. Overtime rules expand to 9.6 million, but no across the board youth wage. Full-time students may work part-time at 1.60 under certain rules.
East Butler High School hosted the East Central Nebraska conference Speech and one act play contest with nine area schools taking part. East Butler won the speech contest and Fort Calhoun took the one act play title. Gary Nelson coached East Butler speech team.
Second graders from Kennedy Memorial School in Franklin dressed in orange ladybug costumes paraded before state legislators at the Capitol to back a law designating the ladybug as Massachusetts state animal. They urged that the insect is pretty, eats harmful insects, and brings good luck.
