UPI reports cattlemen are reducing breeding herds at the sharpest pace in five decades with a possible modest fall in beef production next year. Pork output is recovering and supplies are rising through mid-1977, while hog prices trend lower from late July highs. Beef production is projected to dip from 6.4 billion pounds in late 1976 to about 6.0 billion in early 1977 as grain-fed cattle prices stay depressed and feedlot use declines.
