Bus Train Crash Kills Nine in Stratton Nebraska

A Burlington Northern freight train struck a converted 36 passenger church bus in Stratton Nebraska. Rev Thomas B Nerren his wife and son were killed along with six children. Nine died and eight others aged 3 to 10 were injured. National Transportation Board began full investigation with state police cooperation. The crossing had warnings but the driver did not hear whistles or bells.

Platte Center woman among 16 traffic fatalities this weekend

A 20 year old Platte Center resident Cindy Langan was killed in a head on crash on Highway 81 south of Platte Center. James Conard of Simi Valley California said Langan pulled into his lane while passing. Conard and two passengers were hospitalized with injuries. The weekend toll included six other deaths in Custer and surrounding counties amid Nebraska officials warning of the four deadly months July through October.

Bulldozers begin clearing Big Thompson canyon debris

In Loveland Colorado bulldozers clear two story piles of wreckage from the July flash flood in the Big Thompson canyon. Crews search for bodies as health hazards are removed and cars camper trailers and homes are unearthed. Authorities report 150 to 200 feared dead with 87 bodies recovered and 800 missing.
