Uninsured Fund Amendments Reshape Michigan Claims System
Secretary of State James M. Hare outlines major changes to the Motor Vehicle Accident Claims Fund ahead of license plate sales. The uninsured fee rises from 25 to 35 dollars, minimum property damage increases to 200 dollars, personal injury minimums are removed, and hit and run property claims are barred. A companion bill requires uninsured motorists to carry private liability or be first liable to private insurers before Fund claims.
