Local Clubs Host Parties and Birthday Observed

A string of Friday through Tuesday gatherings includes the Friday afternoon club with Mrs. Homer Douglas and guest Mrs. John Asline where high scores were recorded by Mrs. Jas Rassat and Mrs. Jay Green. West State hostess Mrs. George White hosted guests Mrs. Leo Qden and Mrs. Omer Parent with top scores by Mrs. Louie Thayer, Mrs. Al Young and Mrs. John Stough. Mr. and Mrs. Albert Haley hosted a supper club at Gleason's with three tables of contract and prizes awarded to Alfred Doherty and Mrs. Robert Mair. Dessert Bridge at Coleman saw Mrs. Delmar Adams win high with Mrs. O D Bayes second. guests included Mrs. Harry Wehrly, Mrs. Willard Bicknell, Mrs. W Maynard and Mrs. H Forsberg. The Friday club gathered at Mrs. Lester LeFavour’s with guests Mrs. O W Lynch and Mrs. M B Cramer. prizes went to Mrs. Miles Crollette, Mrs. Leon Casner and Mrs. Cramer. A birthday surprise marked Ellen Western’s 88th at Caro as relatives gathered from Flint and Caro. Anita Jean’s twelfth birthday party at the Gay home featured a lace table, pink candles, a cake and theater outing.

Young Peoples Class Entertained Friday Nite at Coats Home

Nineteen Arthur Center youths met at Mr and Mrs Harley Coats Friday evening for the monthly class meeting. Kenneth Roller conducted the session with the game committee. Chinese checkers crowned Josie Newman and Jack Wood champions. Refreshments were provided by Mrs Coats. The next gathering is at Mr and Mrs Norman Myers on November 3.

Autumn Bride Honored at Star Birthday Party

Senobia Chapter No. 129 of the Eastern Star held its October meeting and the annual forty fifth anniversary birthday party in the dining room. Delegates Iva D Fisher Anna belle Hampton and Nellié M Sher wood reported at Grand Chapter in Grand Rapids. A program included two vocal solos by Doris Emyey and readings by Thel Ryan. Elizabeth Feighner will wed this month and received a chapter gift.

Flame Ec and F. F. A. Party at Mill Dam

Clare High School Home Ec and F. F. A. students held a party at Mill Dam on Wednesday evening October 4. Faynell White Marybell Ford Dorothy Eberhart and Bob White performed with guitars jaw harps and singing. Hot dogs and cider were served before departure. Another party is planned soon.

Friends Gather at Blystone Home for 25th Anniversary

About fifty friends gathered at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Glen Blystone north of Clare on a Tuesday evening to celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary. The event featured cards, visiting, and a plate lunch served at 11 36. The couple received a silver wedding blanket with well wishes from guests.

Navy Day Proclaimed by Clare Michigan Mayor

Clare Michigan Mayor John W. Dunlop designates Friday October 27 as Navy Day to honor naval personnel and Theodore Roosevelt. The proclamation urges church services on October 22 and calls for display of national colors and patriotic programs to promote peace and defense of the nation.

Bible School Bible Mission presents 18 000 youth study results

Clare Baptist Church and Dover Tabernacle sponsor Friday Bible School Heho services with B F Hitchcock Rural Bible Mission director and staff. Moving pictures and reports show how 18 000 youth were reached in Vacation Bible Schools. Local Clare Bible school enrollment 369 noted as one of Michigan's best.

Miss Feighner Honored at Pre Nuptial Events

Alma community hosts two gatherings honoring Elizabeth Feighner ahead of her wedding. Mrs. Paul Hannig’s dinner shower featured Monte Carlo Whist with high and low scores, pastel fiesta ware gifts, and Autumn decor. A luncheon at Mrs. Irwin Schlegel’s home followed with a three course meal and bridge, awarding top players Mrs. Keith Bregenzer and Mrs. Tony Achard.

Rebekah Lodge Holds Regular Session and Practice

Eighteen members met at the hall on Tuesday evening for regular session and degree team practice. Minnie Wilkie presided as Noble Grand. Plans were made for delegate Mrs. Etta Snider to attend the Grand Assembly at Grand Rapids October 16 to 18. The guess box prize, donated by Mrs. Lou Hansler, went to Mrs. Lulu Lamb. After closing, the degree team prepared for Initiation set for October 24. The degree team also met on Wednesday evening for additional practice.

Nine O clock Bridge Club Meets With Mrs Stillwagon

Mrs Stanley Muller and Miss Lee Stillwagon hosted the nine o clock bridge gathering at Miss Stillwagon s North Me Hwan home. Mrs Paul Keck won high honors with Miss Mary Teale second. refreshments followed a short business session planning a no hostess party later. Miss Lee Stillwagon was chosen treasurer and Mrs Claire Sheridan secretary amid a list of members including Miss Mary Teale and Mrs George Ramey.

The Clare Study Club met October 10 at Mrs. Fred Goodman’s home with vice president Mrs. Dale Kennedy presiding. Members discussed Behind the Budget from Atlantic Monthly, reviewed by the committee and club, and planned a citizenship party to honor youths on their 21st birthdays.

Walter H. Lar man Post No 128 American Legion held its first regular meeting of the year in Legion rooms with many members present from Lake George and Lake Station. They arranged for funerals of Joseph Larzon and Mrs Neal Bushong and discussed the Tenth District meeting, Armistice Day events, Navy Day plans, a public dance, and cooperation with Clare Public Schools. The Post Drum and Bogie Corps will parade Clare Streets on Navy Day. Three members are ill and a Higgins Lake cottage meeting was proposed for winter.
