Secretary seeks clear definition for confiscate in Public Act 61
Michigan Secretary of State James M. Hare asks Attorney General Frank J. Kelley for a working definition of confiscate as it applies to enforcing a new vehicle code amendment. He seeks who can confiscate plates, if license plates must be forfeited, and whether confiscation triggers financial responsibility rules after conviction for driving while impaired. He requests guidance before the November 2 effective date of Public Act 61.
