Forecasts Favor Meat Producers in 1968 Outlook

Michigan State University economist Dr. John Ferris says hog prices above 20 dollars with corn under 1 dollar could boost 1968 farrowings and curb swine prices, while spring litters may rise modestly. Current butcher hogs 19.50 to 20.10 at Wolverine Stockyards. Beef cattle outlook improves with strong red meat demand and cheaper feed, though feeder calves remain pricey. Slaughter steers at Glare sale 25.50 to 27.10 and 23.50 to 25.50 for good steers. Lamb numbers down, finished lambs may rise about 2 dollars per hundredweight due to smaller ewe/lamb supply.
