Clare Study Club Hosts Book Review and Irish Song Recital

The Clare Study Club met Tuesday evening at the Methodist Church parlors. Robert Biedler presented three Irish songs with piano by Carol Jean Classens. Mrs. Hugh Kennedy reviewed Steve Allen’s Fourteen For Tonight and provided analyses of the stories. New members were welcomed and district federation notes were shared by club officers.

Clare County 4 H Fall Achievement Set Saturday

The annual Clare County 4 H Fall Achievement will be held November 9 at 8 p m in the V F W Hall at Harrison. All 4 H members and helpers are invited to attend as certificates are issued and awards presented including the new Charter Key Award. Larry Foote of Isabella county will share experiences from his 1957 Italy trip with colored slides. Refreshments follow.

Clare leads with three on Coaches Choice all league team

Three Clare High School players earned first team honors on the Mid-Michigan B Conference Coaches Choice all league team. Pat Crayford Tom Garver and Dick Roe were named for Clare with Durand Haaca Shepherd and Chesaning also represented by multiple selections.

Rehabilitation Aids 34 People In Clare County

Vocational Rehabilitation spent 5649 in Clare County to aid 34 disabled residents last year. Mrs. Hughes reports 12 were placed in paying jobs while funding limits and unclaimed federal funds hinder expanded services and potential wage gains.

Mr and Mrs Forest Shumway celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary on November 11 in Clare where they have lived since 1912. Shumway ran a Clare barber shop for many years. The Clare draft board closes on Armistice Day November 11, per Clerk Bernie Wilson. An unclaimed bicycle remains at the Clare Police Station for weeks and the owner is urged to claim it.

Court Fines Two Drivers For Recklessness

Two reckless drivers were arrested by Clare City Police last weekend and appeared in Clare Municipal Court this week. Owen Coffeli 23 of Mt Pleasant was arrested Sunday on McEwan Street. he was fined 29.30 by Justice Dunop. Coffell's companion Stanley Phelps 24 of Mt Pleasant was charged with disorderly conduct and fined 6 plus costs. Don W. Sharp of Clare was arrested near moon Monday at Wheaton and Cedar Streets and charged with reckless driving. he appeared in court the same day with costs.

Funeral for Robert J. Kirkpatrick in Flint

Funeral services held in Flint for 42 year old Robert J. Kirkpatrick who died at home last week. Born in Clare he lived in Flint 41 years and served in World War II. He worked at the Ternstedt plant for two and a half years. Survived by his mother six sisters and a brother. Burial at Flint Memorial Park.

John Ronald Brubaker of Owosso has purchased the Perry Michigan jewelry store and assumed possession October 3. A 1955 Michigan Veteran's School watchmaker graduate, he served 14 months in the Korean War with the U S Army and was wounded. He is married to Verna Jean Nash of Clare.

District I VEW Rally At Shepherd

An official rally of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Posts and Auxiliaries of District 11 was held at Shepherd on Sunday November 3. A Service Officer's School was conducted in the morning, floor work by the auxiliary, business conducted, and Department Representatives introduced. About 150 members enjoyed lunch at noon, then afternoon sessions covered membership rehabilitation legislation and hospital programs. Harrison attendees included Brice Eaton and Marjorie Jesse.
