Feeding grain for cows on pasture to sustain milk production
Farmers are advised to supplement high producing cows with grain, especially late in summer when pastures decline. Purdue Bulletin 192 guides grain mixes while low producers may not need supplements. A USDA study shows milk per acre varies by pasture mix, orchard grass and Ladino clover yielding the highest value, prompting county-agent consultations. Fly control should start at breeding sites, with manure management until new sprays like DDT become available. Extension Folder 88 offers more on fly prevention.

Military leaders including Fleet Admiral Nimitz warn vast paper demand to equip millions of US troops in the Pacific. Navy officials say eight tons of supplies per man monthly require heavy paper packaging, while paper is essential to safe packaging and labeling.
