Clare High School Bands Present Annual Concert
Clare High School held its fourteenth annual spring concert Friday with seventy two students in the auditorium. The junior band opened with six pieces including Step Lively March and Blue Moon Waltz, followed by the senior band performing multiple selections and two solos. Conductor Mr. Collins contributed The Clare High School Band March, while Drum Major Joanne Richard led four majorettes. The event honored former students now in the armed services and closed with the Star Spangled Banner.

Russell Mater Returns Home From Captivity
Pfc. Russell P. Mater arrived home Tuesday evening on a sixty day fur lough to visit his mother Mrs. Mary Mater and grandparents Mr. and Mrs. Charles Whitlock and other relatives. He was a German prisoner of war and says Michigan is the best. He adds that Pfc. Floyd Gallahan Jr. is in the same camp and that he expects to embark for home with the next wave of returning servicemen. The Lutheran Ladies Aid Society will meet at Mrs. Clara Krienke's home on Wednesday May 16 at 2:00. Seventh War Loan starts Monday.

Mrs Clara Hess Injured In Bus Collision Near Fort Knox
Mrs Clara Hess daughter of Mr and Mrs F L Bergey was en route to visit her brother Sgt Theodore Bergey at Fort Knox Kentucky when a bus collision occurred four miles from camp killing all occupants of the car. She suffered both ankles broken and was hospitalized at the Regional Hospital Fort Knox while the bus burned.

Mrs J Bringold Succumbs To Ill Health In 1945
Rosalie Schwarz born May 5 1875 in Switzerland came to the United States in 1894 and settled in Clare County Michigan. She married John Bringold in 1904 and had four children. After moving to Greenwood township she died May 6 1945 from stomach cancer at age seventy. Funeral services were held May 9 at St Johns Ev Lutheran Clare with burial in Greenwood Cemetery.
