Marketing Lambs Now May Pay
Michigan State livestock marketing specialist Donald H. Stark advises farmers to weigh and weigh again as lambs near readiness. He notes an 80-pound fat lamb sold by July could fetch as much as a 90-pounder later, but stresses that weight alone isn’t enough. Lambs must be fat to grade choice or prime, so buyers judge by feel as well as looks.
