Clare youth injured when car runs over sunbathing teen
John White an 18 year old from Clare was injured Tuesday afternoon near Stevenson Lake after a car driven by 19 year old Robert Kennedy ran over him. He suffered cuts to his leg shoulder and head and was taken to Clare General Hospital in critical condition. Kennedy aided by calling for an ambulance. no charges were filed as investigators continued.

Methodist Bible School Closes Session
Clare Methodist Church ended a two week vacation Bible School with an average attendance of 101. The curriculum focused on the Life and Teachings of Jesus and included lessons, worship, singing, and activities. Funds collected for CROP totaled 43.73 dollars, enough to provide 950 dollars worth of food overseas.

Tourist Booth Sees 114 Inquiries In Less Than A Week
At Clare Michigan the new McEwan Street tourist information booth opened less than a week ago and has logged 114 inquiries. Al Tulk of the Clare Chamber of Commerce reported 34 questions Friday and 70 over the weekend about dining eye doctors routes and ferry times. The booth hours are Friday 10 30 a m to 9 p m and 5 30 p m on other days as the chamber plans a brochure listing eating places and tourist housing and amusements.

Local civic and business leaders joined Michigan Bell representatives to mark Rosebush and Farwell switching to dial telephones. Early Sunday the towns joined a metropolitan system destined for a nationwide network, followed by a commemorative dinner at the Doherty Hotel in Clare. Election to Fill Two Seats on Clare School Board
Dr. Clayton B Neff and Richard Groves are expected to be nominated to succeed themselves on the Clare Board of Education at the annual meeting in the school auditorium at 8 o clock p.m. next Monday. The meeting offers good news from the financial department as the debt retirement rate drops from 11 mills to 9 6/10 mills to retire the district debt in two years. The operating budget requires ten mills to qualify for State aid, with a total rate slated at 19 6/10 mills, down from 21 mills in 1954. voters will decide on raising the rate by three tenths of one mill.

Local Navy Reserve Men Depart for Great Lakes Training

A Coleman man, George Pope, rescued a father and three girls from drowning in a deep Houghton Lake channel. The group struggled after slipping toward a sharp drop, with four plunges needed to reach shore. Dixie, four, was revived by Pope's breathing assistance and was treated for exhaustion. Pope, a Dow Corning employee and WWII Sea Bee veteran, collapsed from exertion but recovered.

Vernon Adams of Sears died after a single vehicle crash near the Coleman blinker light. He was pinned in the car after the 3 a.m. collision and succumbed about 45 minutes later at Clare General Hospital. He was 23 years old.
