Chickens Feathers Change Color With New Diet at Penn State
Researchers at Pennsylvania State College observed lab chickens and turkeys develop white plumage after receiving specific rations. Dr. R. V. Boucher notes the pigment loss is not tied to known vitamins and may be corrected by feeding dried brewer's yeast at 5 percent of mash with over 45 percent protein. The change appears within two to three weeks and occurs only in confined birds, not those with pasture access.

Keeping Hens Comfortable in Hot Weather Practices
Hens should be kept cool with ample clean water and good ventilation. Provide drinking water two to three times daily and wet mash at noon if mash consumption drops. Moisten dry mash with cool liquids at three pounds per 100 birds. Cull nonlaying birds to protect egg production and feed efficiency amid scarce feed.
Canning Raspberries With Red Syrup Method
Use fresh firm raspberries for canning after washing. Pack in glass jars with alternating berries and red syrup until full. Process pints or quarts in a hot water bath for 20 minutes. For syrup use overripe berries with water, boil and strain, then sugar to taste and reboil.
