Wartime appeal urges farmers and woodlot owners to harvest pulpwood to meet a 2 500 000 cord shortfall for armed forces paper needs. Mills offer high prices, with residents cutting cords daily to aid munitions production. Contact Clare County Victory Pulpwood Committee chair Wm H Caple for details.
Bethlehem yards, employing about 300000 workers, produced a vast fleet in 1943 including 35,000 ton battleships and multiple aircraft carriers, destroyers, cruisers, and numerous Liberty and Victory ships. The program exceeded its one ship per day target, repairing and servicing over 7000 vessels as well.
Clare County 4 H Club Leaders gather at Harrison next Friday January 21 for the Annual Mid Winter conference with State Leaders. Miss Beatrice Boyle will meet Clothing club leaders and Stanley Ball will meet handicraft club leaders. The meeting begins at 3 30 p m in the Court House with supper at 6 p m in the V F W room followed by recreation and individual conferences.

Doyle Teel died in Detroit after a three week illness. Funeral services were held at St. Cecilia's Church in Clare with Rev. Fr. Charles D. Brophy presiding. Interment followed at Cherry Grove Cemetery. Teel, born October 9 1915 in Cadillac, Michigan, married Helen Hartman in 1936 and left a daughter Tressa Novella. He is survived by his wife, daughter, father Charles B. Teel, Claude Hartman and other relatives.

Tonight at Jautaey Hall a card party and dance will feature music from Behindey Orchestra. Cards begin at 9 and proceeds go to a local fund. Admission details are not fully legible.
About thirty members met at Clare High School Auditorium for the annual meeting. Stanley Schunk became Chairman and Math Schmid was reelected Secretary. Clarence L. Bolander outlined dehydrated food samples and future farming methods while urging farmer organization to influence legislation. O’Mealey discussed the exchange's history and price conditions, Finnegan addressed wool markets, and Stark touched on feeder steer trends.

In Hamilton township Clare county St. John's Lutheran elected Charles Fanslow secretary William Fansglau treasurer Howard Bromke Gust Kliewoneit deacons Albert Stroke Henry Yaeger Arthur Fisch trustees Carl Kliewoneit janitor 1944 to be inducted February 13.
CPL and Mrs Don D Ritchie were summoned from Paso Robles California to Weidman by the death of John Ritchie on December 27 They spent time in Claré with Mrs Fred Pierson and Agnes Pierson while Mr Pierson planned to rejoin them before returning home due to work in Detroit
The Clare Chamber of Commerce will hold its annual meeting and election of officers and directors at the Hotel Doherty next Tuesday evening January 18 with a 6:30 dinner. Tickets are sold under Vice President Murl Houghton who urges members to secure theirs by Saturday. wartime priorities do not lessen the chamber duties to support business and the war effort.
Fred Timm of Grant township Clare county died at Clare Hospital on Monday January 10 at age seventy after a decade of ill health. A German-born pioneer who arrived in 1888 with his parents he lived on farms in Grant township before moving to Clare. He leaves wife Louise and four daughters Pauline Wiles Hilda Walters Lena Graham and Gertrude Cox plus eleven grandchildren and other relatives. Funeral services were held at Thurston Funeral Home with Rev Leah Gardon officiating and burial in Cherry Grove Cemetery.
Dance at Brinton LO.C.F. Hall on Saturday evening January 15 sponsored by Coldwater Grange. Music by Jake Colmus Hill Country Orchestra. Tickets cost 50 cents with free admission for ladies.
City taxpayers will be at the Oise Derby home at 115 Hast Fifth St until further notice to collect city taxes. Mrs Mildred Wentworth serves as 15th Deputy City Treasurer.
The Sentinel asks subscribers using the zone system for mail delivery in Detroit and other cities to urgently notify their zone number. Delays have occurred due to missing zone numbers and cooperation in furnishing them is appreciated.
Harrison correspondent reports the death of Henry E. B. Gardiner born February 10 1872 in Vassar Michigan. He moved from Leota to Harrison in 1908 and managed local stores before retiring in 1941 after building a family business. Funeral held at his home with Rev. Burk officiating. Burial at Deepdale Cemetery Lansing. Survivors include wife Gertrude daughter Leota VanEvery grandson Philip VanEvery sister Minerva Richmond brother John Gardiner. Out-of-town mourners attended from Flint Saginaw and Detroit.
The Office of Price Administration says housewives will keep similar ration buying power when the new token plan starts Sunday February 27. Each person gets sixty points monthly for meats and fats and fifty for processed foods with adjusted values to maintain overall balance. Tokens are worth one point and food stamps ten points. new rules begin thirty points for meats and fats at each two week period and fifty points for processed foods at month start.
The Young People’s Christian Endeavor Rally will meet at the home of Rev. and Mrs. Chas Kleinhardt at 8:00 PM next Tuesday January 18 to plan the next rally and handle group business. Two delegates from Arthur Center Colonville Dover Brown Corners Eagle and Elm Grove are expected to attend.
The Clare P T A Club will meet next Monday evening January 17 at 8:00 in the Home Economics room of the high school. The discussion will cover the local child recreation program and foster parent teacher dialogue on youth welfare during these times of national unrest. All parents are urged to attend.
The large modern barn at Dick Emierson farm five miles north and two east of Clare burned down after midnight Monday with unknown origin. Firemen arrived at 11 45 pm to a collapsing roof. nearby livestock shelter and contents were destroyed. Loss estimated at 5000 with 3368 adjusted after insurance review. animals, equipment, hay, grain, and water system all lost.
Henry S Lansing born December 27 1867 in Sidney Ontario died January 7 1944 in Kalamazoo Michigan after a year long illness. He lived in Lansingville Frankfort and Lansing Michigan where he managed the first A and P store and owned a Perkins Street shop. He is survived by his widow Matilda Vandervort a brother a sister and several nieces nephews and cousins. Funeral services were held January 10 at Gorsline-Runciman Funeral Home and interment was in Deepdale cemetery officiated by Rev B S Lewis and Rev Wilfred Hley with friends and relatives in attendance.
The Eastern Stars announce a card party to be held Thursday January 26 in the Masonic Hall. Proceeds support local charitable efforts and community programs.
Clare County gears up for the Fourth War Loan Drive starting January 18 with a county wide rally at Harrison Court House January 17. The drive promotes “Sacrifice to Buy Extra War Bonds” and aims to meet a $315000 county quota and $160000 for E bonds while schools join in boosting bond sales to fund a PT 19B Fairchild trainer.
Navy Boys of Mt. Pleasant will sing at the Baptist Church Sunday at 7 30 pm and take a definite part in services. They performed here weeks ago and the church was packed with singing and testimonies. One member shared a message about Christ’s work for the armed forces and encouraged attendance.
