The Straits Bridge Authority led by Prentiss Brown reported to the Governor and State Legislature that a five mile long four lane bridge between Mackinac City and St. Ignace is feasible. Funeral services for Mrs Earl Beatty who died after a lingering illness were held at the Clare Methodist Church. Interment was in Cherry Grove cemetery with Stephenson Funeral Home handling arrangements. Born Mary Florence Bryant August 11 1884 in Kingston Ontario she moved to Clare Michigan as a child and married Harly Beatty in 1912. She leaves husband two sons Archie and Stewart two grandsons two sisters and two brothers all of Clare plus several out of town relatives.

Oldest Publisher Dies Sunday At One Hundred
Frank M. Vandercook Michigan's oldest newspaper publisher died at his St Louis home on Sunday January 14 aged 100 years six months and 18 days. He began as a printer's devil at ten, bought his first paper in Gratiot county at 27, and remained a publisher. He was father of the late Mrs Maude Van Den Berg of Clare. Funeral services were held in St Louis Wednesday afternoon with interment there.

Ralph David Bellows of Clare Manufactur ing Company died Monday evening at Central Michigan Community Hospital in Mt. Pleasant after a weeklong hospitalization. He was born May 7, 1909 in Coldwater township Isabella county and married Clarice Dean on September 12, 1948. He served 21 months in the European Theater during World War II and was discharged in 1945. He leaves his wife, his mother, three children from a former marriage, a sister and two brothers. Funeral services were held at the Clare Methodist Church with burial at Sherman City Cemetery. interment conducted by the American Legion and W.F.W. of Clare.
