Clare Osteopathic Hospital Staff Elects Officers and Plans Improvements
Clare Osteopathic Hospital organized a staff meeting at the Doherty Hotel with a buffet supper. Officers elected include Dr. W F McGinnis head of internal medicine and Dr. H G Henry head of surgery. A long list of staff doctors from Clare Mt Pleasant Saginaw and other towns was named along with hospital administrator and nurse supervisor. Wives formed the Women's Auxiliary and board members were named. A tour of the hospital followed with plans for proposed changes slated around February 1.

Good Housekeeping notes in its January issue that about one million housewives employing domestics must understand the Social Security law. A domestic includes nurses, furnacemen, gardeners and babysitters who work 24 days in three months starting Jan 1 1951 and earn at least 50 dollars in cash. employers must withhold 1 percent of wages, file a return and forward both the withheld tax and the employer's 1 1/4 percent contribution to the district IRS collector. Largest 1950 Oil Discovery Near Gladwin
Don Rayburn, a Standish independent producer, drilled the Cassidy No 1 six miles from Gladwin, marking the year 1950’s final Michigan strike. Geologists report 810 barrels per day potential but production is limited to 125 barrels daily to conserve pressure. The find lies along a northwest trend from Bay City to the Kalkaska field.

Trunkline widening set for Clare County completion in 1951
State Highway Department will complete four trunkline projects here in 1951 including 26 miles of grading and drainage 18 miles of concrete pavement widening two grade separations and multiple bridges and a storm water pumping station. Three Die? No, Motorists Injured In Separate Crashes Near Clare
Three separate weekend crashes near Clare left three people seriously injured and one driver missing a limb. In the main collision three miles south of Clare on US-27 a northbound car struck an empty tanker and tractor after hitting an ice patch. Leon Smith and his wife Alma were ejected, with Alma losing a leg to amputation and Leon sustaining multiple injuries. A passenger, Mrs. Robert Tonner, suffered head injuries and a broken hip. The trio were hospitalized at Central Michigan Community Hospital. The truck driver John Caldwell and two passengers escaped injury. In a second crash three miles south of Clare on WS-27 Margaret Pickard sustained injuries after her car struck a truck and a repair vehicle on the snowy shoulder. A third incident on US-10 near Clare involved Jules Densmore reporting a side-swipe with damage to his car.

John A Kaul Dies After Long Saginaw Life
John August Kaul son of Joseph and Katherine Kaul was born March 24 1883 in Grand Haven Michigan and died January 4 1951 at age 97 years 9 months 11 days. He lived in Bloomfield Township and worked in lumber camps before settling on the farm he and Pauline Rust built and cultivated. His passing came suddenly after a month of illness with family at his bedside.
