Regulations Tighten For Licensed Shooting Preserves

The Conservation Commission in its February session updated rules for licensed shooting preserves. Only ring necked pheasants Chinese Mongolian and related varieties may be released and shot. Season runs Oct 25 to Dec 25 with a 50 percent quota of total releases. Birds must come from licensed farms or stock from licensed dealers. The State Game Farm will not supply birds or eggs for preserves. A new tag seal system will track each pheasant from pickup, numbers recorded by the department. Sworn statements show 3,569 pheasants produced and released by licensees last season, over one third of what the State Game Farm released in 1929.
