Low Producing Hens and Undersized Pullets Should Be Culled
A. G. Oliver of North Carolina State College advises poultry keepers to cull nonproducing hens and weak pullets starting in June through October. Regular weekly culling maximizes price and reduces feed costs, with summer culling focusing on removing poor birds while fall culling targets flock improvement as production falls below 20 to 30 percent.

Encourage Early Roosting for Chicks at Home
Stephen M Walford of Purdue University advises raising chicks to roost as soon as they are well feathered to prevent smothering and crowding in corner spaces. If heavy breeds resist, install slanted roosts with netting to keep birds off the floor, then gradually raise roosts to standard height.

Confiniing Hens Found to Be Most Profitable
Farmers who moved flocks to smaller fenced yards report higher egg yields and fewer diseases as ground is cleaner. Better feeding in confined spaces reduces worm exposure and allows fresh flocks each year or six months. Baby chicks should be treated similarly to maintain health.
Poultry Feeding and Housing Tips for Better Returns
The article advises balanced feeding with 20 to 40 pounds of dried skim milk per 100 pounds of mash when cocci diosis appears. Limit mature poultry to restricted areas, avoid excessive stocking, and prefer profit with 100 chickens. It warns against mixing bloodlines in Leghorns, omits liver oil to prevent fishy taste, and suggests dust wallows for hens' comfort in summer.
