Michigan's alfalfa acreage rose from 174000 acres in 1919 to 598000 in 1930 per W H Church estimates, but remains about one fifth of total hay. Michigan State Collegeag crops and soils teams tour counties to urge more plantings. Alfalfa fixes atmospheric nitrogen, feeds dairy cattle, and can be green feed for poultry. Seed crops boosted 1930 farm profits and may lift sericultural income in favorable years.

January figures still show Chevrolet ahead, helped by a 70 000 unit January output. Dr Brondstetter Dies After Six Day Illness
Dr Michael Brondstetter a top Mt Pleasant surgeon dies at home after a six day illness. A University of Michigan Medical School graduate class of 1911 he led Mt Pleasant hospital named for him and served as county coroner and surgeon to the Ann Arbor Railway company among other posts. He was 46 and survived by his wife and five children.

The Durnin No. 1 well drilled in Vernon field reached Dundee formation after repairs and is producing about 14 cents per barrel with a slowly increasing flow. Marion Gephart fatally injured by truck near Jackson
Former Grant county resident Marion Gephart died from injuries after a February 3 collision with a truck driven by Winton Hull of Munich. Funeral services were held at Gildersleeve Funeral Home and burial at Woodlawn Cemetery in Jackson. Surviving is widow Gladys Beaker and children Rufus Arthur plus two sisters and two brothers. The family had lived on the Bowler farm before moving to southern Michigan.
