500 Barrel Well Struck in Leaton Field Last Friday
A big oil strike occurred Friday morning in the Leaton pool, McKenzie No. 1, Isabella township, nine miles south and one mile east of Leaton. The well began with a 30 barrel flow per 45 minutes, later rising as drillers fought gas pressure to control the flow into tanks. Initial estimates put 24 hour production around 450 to 500 barrels. Other nearby wells include Durnin No. 1 near Clare and Regan near Clare, with questions about source sands and ongoing drilling on Hatton township lease areas.

Former Clare Lady Seriously Injured Near Ponshewaing
Mrs. Trevor Stears of Alanson is hospitalized in Petoskey after being struck by an automobile near Ponshewaing Wednesday afternoon January 28. The vehicle, driven by Homer Dagwell of Mackinaw City, left the pavement and struck Stears as she stepped onto snow caused by a road plow. Dagwell aided the injured woman and drove her to her home then to the Petoskey hospital with her husband. Stears suffered crushed legs and a severe knee wound with no internal injuries evident.

Five People Escape Injury in Auto Wreck Near Clare
Mr and Mrs Wm Kapplinger of Grant township and three others escaped injury Sunday near Clare when ice caused a rear skid on U S 27.
