Frontier Park Start of Hawkeye Downs Traced to 1925 Launch
Al Swegie recalls Cedar Rapids leaders formed the Cedar Rapids Amusement Aln on May 3 1925 with 150000 capital raised by stock sale. The nine incorporators and directors bought land in 1926, naming the site Frontier Park and later Hawkeye Downs. The All Iowa fair grew from a dairy show to a major venue, with a 12000 to 13000 seat wooden grandstand, a half mile track, and barns, enduring tax issues, rebuilds, and a 1966 grandstand replacement.

State dairy princess crowned at Waterloo convention
Princess Sue Buhr, daughter of Mr and Mrs Allen Buhr of Sumner, was named state dairy princess in Waterloo on Friday. Her cousin Mary Relnking of Hawkeye was named alternate princess. Other finalists included Charyl Ammoter of Central City Ann Long of Brook lyn and Pom Paper of Stockton.

Domer Lists Calf Champions From Multiple Shows
Cathy Domer, daughter of Hob and Mrs Bomer, compiled a long list of calf champions. She exhibited the 120-pound Angus steer at the American Royal Livestock Show in Kansas City, also winning Angus at Waterloo Dairy Cattle Congress. She showed the reserve crossbred steer at Waterloo and the reserve grand champion steer at the Mid-Continent Steer Show in Amboy Illinois.
