Market Summary Hog and beef prices drop in mid September

Lafayette Indiana reports rising hog and beef marketings along with sharp price declines in mid September. Spring pig crops pushed wholesale pork prices down and hog bids fell, with best butcher hogs around 19 dollars per hundredweight. Beef cattle prices slid as heavy grain fed supplies pressured top grades. Fat lamb values also dropped, and compared with a year ago hog prices were higher while cattle were lower. Bearish grain trends capped gains.
