The Carthage Band Booster Organization met Tuesday night in the Band Room at Carthage School with good attendance. Nola Patterson presided and led the session as members voted to buy white gloves for the school band.
Edna Kennedy Worthy Matron of Carthage O.E.S and Bonita Patterson attended the Friends night of the Order of Eastern Star at Moorland Tuesday night.
Mrs. Jean Torlucci 39 of Miami Florida died Saturday in a Miami hospital after about four weeks there from leukemia. She was the daughter of Mrs. Myrtle Miner formerly of Carthage. Survivors include husband Frank two daughters Carol and Judy mother Myrtle Miner of Cincinnati and father Gilbert Miner Morris Plains New Jersey Funeral services and burial were held Tuesday at 2 p.m. in Newark.
James Mann aged 75 of Franklin and father of Maude Shutt of Carthage R. R. reentered Robert Long hospital for the amputation of his other leg after earlier surgery for diabetes.
The Fall Festival Talent Show runs Friday October 4 at 7 45 p.m. Community members may join by contacting Mrs Helen Ruby or Mrs Ruth Hunt. The show theme is Fall Fiesta and the organizing committee includes William Skinner Donald Ruby Helen Ruby Ruth Hunt and James Webb.
The sick Mrs Trees Jackson continues to recover from surgery and is expected to return home this week. Mr and Mrs C G Hill recuperate at Rush Memorial Hospital after hospital admission for tests and observation. Mrs Ina Rhodes remains at home in Darth. Bob Talbert, husband of Mrs Margaret Mann Talbert, has been admitted to Arkansas Baptist Hospital in Little Rock for treatment and observation.

A car driven by Philip Lukens was damaged extensively last Sunday night on U S 52 east of Arlington after striking a hog owned by Rigsbee Farlow. The hog was killed in the collision with damage estimated at 450 dollars.
Army Pvt. Robert P. Stanley son of Mr and Mrs Roy O Stanley Route 1 Carthage Ind is slated to complete eight weeks of basic combat training on Sept 27 under the Reserve Forces Act program at Fort Leonard Wood He graduated from Carthage High School this year and was employed by the Indiana National Bank Indianapolis before entering the Army.

Carthage High School announces editors for the 195? Four Ways column with Jim Terhune as Editor-in-Chief and Bob Harrold, Waynetta Clark, Norma Sipes, and Paul Turner in key roles. The issue covers classroom rosters, new teachers Mrs. Fort Mr. Sprague and Mr. Taylor, band and FFA news, and early cross country results including Carthage and Waldron meets with individual placements and upcoming schedules.

Principal Mr. Charles Morris announced that the Junior class rings were received by the school on Tuesday.
The Carthage Fletcher Methodist Church will observe Rally Day on September 29 aiming for 200 attendees with special entertainment planned for the day.
Mr and Mrs Lloyd Manuel and their two sons have moved into a newly built residence on the Carthage Mays road this week. The family now occupies the house after its completion.
Ramonia Erwin of Knightstown and Travis Tompkins of Carthage were married at 3 p.m. by Justice of the Peace Son McCorkle. Among those present were Angie Gassin, Carlie Tompkins, Morris H. Cash, Robert Miller, SFC Elbert M. Tompkins, W. R. Tompkins, Estus Tompkins, Nancy Gasper, Carolyn Warren, Wanda Colestock, and James Jones.
Mrs. Reta Cambier age 59 sister of Mrs. Lewise Morris of Carthage died after a cerebral hemorrhage. She had a son Johnny Bill and a mother Mrs. Florence Graves of Danville. Siblings include Lewise Morris and Mary Margaret Moore and brothers Dean and Grover. Funeral Tuesday at 1 30 p.m. in Danville attended by Mr. and Mrs. Charles Morris and daughter Charlew.
Carthage defeats Mays 2-1 on the Tigers’ home field to spoil an unbeaten run. Both teams scored in the sixth inning as Trowbridge doubled home a run and an error plated another. Magee fanned ten in a strong seven innings, while Mays stranded the bases loaded in the seventh despite five hits from Grandison and others.
The Carthage Camera Club met at the Community Center with Hubert Hunt presiding and Rowena Silver presenting the secretary’s report. Members voted to furnish entertainment for the Fall Festival and to have a booth. Thirty-one attendees viewed vacation photos by Cecil and Rowena Pike and Caribbean trip photos by Howard Henley and family.

Ed Meyer of Rush County exhibited the Grand Champion Shorthorn steer weighing 1070 pounds sold to Pavy Stockyards at 70 cents a pound, highest price for the event. Reserve Grand Champion also a Shorthorn weighed 1110 pounds sold to Marsh Foodliner at 30 cents.
Mrs Lena Newsom has returned home following a month long stay with Mr and Mrs E A Koolman in Van Buren Indiana.
Carthage sets October 3 4 and 5 for its Fall Festival with a band marching contest and flower show added. Jack Tweedy chairs the three day event with Thursday Flower Show and smorgasbord, Friday variety show and basement meals, Saturday kids games roadeo parade cake walk and dance. Queen and King will be crowned at the Saturday dance with candidates named by class. Various organizations and chairmen are listed for each activity and prizes will be awarded for the band marching contest and flower show ribbons.
Wayne Coy receives appointment as honorary state chairman of the Dollars for Democrats Drive by Charles E. Skillen. Coy, former FCC chairman and president of Twin States Broadcasters, to speak at a September 28 kickoff luncheon in Indianapolis. Fundraising through Oct 11 12 aims to support county, state, and national committees.
John R. White chairman of the Rush County Sheep committee reminds farmers of the fourth Lamb Pool at the Cowan Stockyards Rushville on Wednesday from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. Paul Graue official lamb grader will visit farms to sort lambs if the Extension Office is notified by Tuesday evening.

Carthage High School baseball dropped its third loss of the fall schedule as Arlington edged the local nine 11 to 10 in eight innings on Tuesday night. Arlington tied the game in the seventh and scored the deciding run in the extra frame.
