The Taylor County Democratic Executive Committee met at the courthouse in Butler on Saturday June 19 setting nominating rules for County Representative. A $150 filing fee and a 6 p m July 10 deadline were established with the primary scheduled for September 8. July 10 New Date Set for Getting Auto Drivers' License
Maj. Wayne Hinson announced a 10 day extension for obtaining drivers licenses due to unseasonable weather delaying planting. The new deadline is July tenth as thousands balance work with licensing. Over $1,000,000 in licenses issued and sales surpass prior years. about half a million licenses remain to be processed. State patrolmen are ordered to honor money order receipts for applications.

State Convention Opens Doors To All in Macon
Democratic State Chairman James S. Peters announced the state convention in Macon will be open to all next Friday with 5,000 to 7,000 expected attendees. No credentials are required for admission as the body will revise rules to conform with recent Supreme Court decisions and elect presidential electors. Mr Riley Montgomery dies unexpectedly in Ft Valley
Mr Riley Wallace Montgomery of Ft Valley died at the local hospital Tuesday noon after six weeks illness from a cerebral hemorrhage. Born May 5 1892 in Marion County he lived in Ft Valley sixteen years in electrical contracting. Funeral in Butler at 10 this morning with Rev J W M Stipe officiating. Survivors include one brother Dr Montgomery of Butler. Edwards Brothers Funeral Home in charge. Taylor County Camp Meeting opens July 1 for ten days with Evangelists Dr John Paul Rev James Gibson and Rev Charles Slater joining W J Parrish to lead singing.

Taylor County ministers and delegates at the South Georgia Methodist annual Conference in Cordele welcomed ministerial student Howard Gray McCrary on trial. Son of George and Mrs. McCrary of Crowell, he studied at Reynolds and Chicago Evangelistic Institute before earning an A B from Greenville College in 1947 and serving as pastor of Jefferson. he was reassigned to the Jefferson charge for another year.

Superior Court To Convene Here Next Monday Morning
Taylor County Superior Court will convene here next Monday at 9 oclock with Judge T Hicks Fort of Columbus presiding. Solicitor General Ed Wohlwender Jr. and Court Reporter R O Perkins of Columbus will fill their duties. Thirty three civil cases are set for trial including ten divorces and two fire damage suits against the Atlantic Coast Line Railway Company. The Posey suit against Flint Electric Membership Corp. regarding Terrell Poseys death was postponed to an adjourned September session. Mrs Susie Byrd Montgomery died at her Crowell home Tuesday morning following a long illness. Born February 2 1872 in Taylor County she was the daughter of Pickens Byrd. She married J S Montgomery who preceded her in death. A Crowell Methodist member she was active in church and community affairs. Funeral at Crowell church Wednesday with Rev Park Smith officiating. Interment in Crowell cemetery. Six sons Charles Clyde Ceopus Clifford Willie and Webster Montgomery survive along with four brothers D E Maylam Vastine and Charlie.

A week of revival meetings led by Rev. Eugene Daley concluded Sunday night at the local Baptist Church. Rev. Mulsifee, a new insecticide from Woolfolk Chemical Works in Ft. Valley, claims 99 percent effectiveness against the green peach aphid damaging tobacco. The product, containing tetraethyl phosphorate, was developed with Coastal Plains Experiment Station at Tifton and first noted in Florida in 1945.
