Drilling Progress Report On Shell Lease Near Millican

Reports today indicate drilling began on the Shell company lease on the Knox Williams farm about two miles from Millican and half a mile east of highway No 6. Earlier, derrick work and equipment unloading occurred at Millican for the project. A second development notes a start at J C Barnett well at Iola to remove a sucker and shut off water that halted the well after a promising oil show. Barnett planned to begin this work after departing Iola.

Teachers Return From State Convention in Fort Worth

Miss Wesa Weddington and Miss Elliott Benson of Stephen F. Austin High School along with Miss Nina Henry of Bowie and Miss Lemma Dowell of Travis returned from Fort Worth where they attended the state convention of teachers. They called the event the largest attended and best in years with a Friday banquet at the Fort Worth Club featuring music speeches and entertainment.

Fires Cause About $1000 Damage At A M College

Two fires at Texas A and M College caused about $1000 in damage to personal property and buildings. In Foster Hall room of C M Cummings and I M Lowenstein damage reached about $700. Y M C A linen closet fire caused around $250. College firefighters used 190 gallons of water to control the blazes.

YMCA Linen Closet Fire Alarmed by Smoke in College Building

Fire in a third floor linen closet of the YMCA building near the associate secretary J G Gay was discovered around 4:00 by Professors W K Sugaroff and C J Finney. The blaze damaged linen reserves and a vacuum sweeper. tenants and staff used three extinguishers before the fire department’s arrival. The closet had been locked since Saturday. damage is insured.

Youth of Bryan Is Made Pledge To Sigma Delta

Nelson Fuller of Bryan, among five UT students pledged Monday to Sigma Delta Chi, the journalistic fraternity. Initiation will be held in January. Fuller, a UT bachelor of journalism candidate, has been a night editor on the Daily Texan for two years and won a gold key for his work.

Texan announces $750000 construction program and student election notes

The Texan reports a $750,000 construction program and notes from a Monday pledge with Fuller. Joe Hornaday of Austin defeated Fuller last spring for associate editor of this year’s Texan, and Jay Hall of Colorado was elected journalism representative to the Students' Assembly by a seven vote margin over Fuller.
