The Good Cheer campaign opens Thursday and runs through the week to solicit money and supplies. Rural donors may contribute food preserved at home and clothing, while city residents can donate cash or usable garments. Participants are urged to meet the Saturday deadline. Bryan's aid to the needy is cited as precedent.
J N Williams and J H Nevels traveled to Bryan from Iola. Mrs C H Mathis of Refiasce visited Bryan. Mrs J E Angell of Colexge Dark recovers after surgery in a Bryan clinic. Cordie Fletcher of Nicholasville Kentucky sends Christmas wishes and renewal for the Eagle.
Friends of Mr and Mrs Claude Hyden mourn the deaths of their two children on Sunday night December 4 after a brief illness. Claude Hyden Jr aged 3 died at home at 10 45 p m and their 17 day old baby died at midnight. Funeral services were held at 2 30 this afternoon at the family home with Rev Roy S Holloman officiating. The parents and one brother Montie Lee Hyden survive and the children were buried in one grave at Old Booneville Cemetery.
Rebecca Baker aged 102, called Grandma Baker, enjoyed her first airplane trip Sunday afternoon. Accompanied by her grandson W. H. Johnson she rode in a tri motored Ford plane at Walton Field near the Fin Feather Club piloted by R. L. Lowry with no ill effects reported.
The finance solicitation committee met to assign workers for the Good Cheer drive on December 8 9 and 10 at the Chamber of Commerce office. The list includes Miss Wesa Weddington Rev J B Gleissner J Vernon Brown and many others with specific blocks and locations across schools courthouses stores service clubs and banks.
Several citizens of Bryan received invitations to attend the annual banquet of the Navasota and Grimes County Chamber of Commerce to be held in Navasota Thursday at 7 30 p m. The president is J T Swanson and the secretary is Mrs H Bowden Anderson.
James Jones and Hattie Lee Perry of Burleson county and K. C. Williams and Jessie Mae McCowan of Brazos county have filed with County Clerk Jess B. McGee their intention to marry.
Louis H. Buisch of the Merchants Service Bureau tells the Bryan group that retail trade is improving as autumn and winter buying grows, replenishing stocks and creating thousands of factory jobs while rising prices stiffen the market.
County and city authorities seek Henry Washington, a Negro, after a Wednesday night shooting that wounded Gus Conatella in the back. Conatella, not severely hurt, was with Charles Duty en route to Bryan on Highway No 6 when a rifle bullet struck him. Duty saw Washington fleeing about 25 yards behind the wagon.
Wheeling officers arrested Rudy Palkovitz on a truck theft charge. He was brought from Bryan after signing an extradition waiver. A second suspect remained at large as a truck linked to the theft was found at Nav asota.
At a Saturday meeting the Brazos County Health Board chose officers for the coming year. Mrs. D. B. Cofer was elected chairman, Mrs. W. S. Howell vice chairman, and Mrs. A. M. Waldrop secretary.

City streets will again glow with hundreds of colored electric lights along Main street and Bryan avenue. City Manager R. G. Williams said lights will be installed late this week or early next week and illuminated nightly through the holiday season.
Chamber of Commerce directors in Brazos County back government crop loans for 1933. They urge sending letters to Congressman Luther Johnson and J P Buchanan and Senators Morris Sheppard and Tom Connally to push new legislation. County Agent C L Benson notes loans aid farmers who lack finance and cites 90 percent repayment of early loans. Committee leaders discuss Live-at-Home contest winners and praise the Chamber- Lions $150 boost.
Fritz Plagens of Kurten died Thursday night and was laid to rest Friday at 3 p.m. in Kurten cemetery following funeral services at Evangelical Lutheran church led by Rev. F. C. Anderson. Family and local attendees gathered from Kurten, North Zulch, Houston, and Bryan.
After a long illness Mrs. Mattie T. Withers wife of A E Withers died at the family home on Mechanics Avenue She was 58 born in Navasota September 28 1874 Survived by her husband five sons and four daughters The First Baptist church conducted the funeral this afternoon at 3 30 with Rev W H Andrew in charge Burial followed in Bryan city cemetery McCulloch Dansby directing arrangements Pallbearers were Charles Carroll Charles Ferguson D Paul Dansby W H Johnson W P Ward and McDuff Simpson
J. E. Stanford editor of the Southern Agriculturist travels from Tuesday to Longview for the Longview Chamber of Commerce banquet. He will visit the Rio Grande Valley for his annual paper tour stopping in Jim Wells county Mission and Harlingen Browns ville and other valley cities. He will meet John T. Floore in Harlingen and return to Bryan next Tuesday.
H. M. Meyer horticultural agent of I and G N railroad and a tomato buyer for Newton and Wallace will visit Bryan on December 8 to meet county growers. The meeting at the chamber of commerce rooms starts at 10 am to discuss acreage and other topics related to growing and selling tomatoes.
The Knights of Columbus at St. Joseph's Catholic Church held Mass at 8 15 AM and a memorial service in the council chamber at 2 30 PM for eleven deceased members. Rt Rev J B Gleissner delivered the main address noting each honoree.
Mrs Gladys Mae Royall Bolding, 28, died in Baptist Sanatorium Waco from pneumonia. She was born in Bryan and educated at Bryan High School and A M College. Funeral held in Waco with interment at Oakwood. Survived by husband W F Bolding and son Billy. grandparents E B Royall in Bryan.
Louis A. Johnson national commander of the American Legion will visit Texas December 14 and 15 with four addresses. He will speak at a noon luncheon in Denton December 14 and attend a public meeting in Greenville that evening. On December 15 he appears at a noon luncheon in Nacogdoches and a final address in Beaumont at the Municipal Auditorium.
John Hammond of Sherman, longtime Brazos county resident with many local friends, arrived in Bryan on Thursday to visit his sister Mrs W H Morgan and other relatives. He notes progress in the region and enjoys reuniting with old friends during his stay.
J Allen Myers, a well known Bryan area resident, was killed when his car skidded on a wet Waller Highway morning fog. He was en route from Houston to Bryan to stop for coffee. Surviving are five sons and a son in law. Funeral held at First Christian Church with Reverend S E Bledsoe presiding and interment in Bryan city cemetery.
Miss Mildred Horton, state demonstration agent, will present Roads Toward Rural Riches at the County Federated Clubs meeting. The talk begins at 12 30 p m at the Woman's Club building. Those needing rations may contact B Clark at College Station or Sam E Phovstadt in Bryan.
