Pneumonia Victim Laid To Rest In Bryan Cemetery

Funeral services for the pneumonia victim were held on West 30th Street with Rev. I J Blackwelder and Dr. W H Andrew in charge. Interment followed in the Cloud family lot at Bryan city cemetery. Floral tributes from friends across the state covered the grave. Pallbearers included Howard Mitchell Parker Carroll W R McCullough Roy W Nunn Frank Boriskie A E Jones and B C Allen.

Mexican Sculptor Villa to Lead Texas History Panels at A&M

International sculptor Mr. Villa, who has taught in Beaux Arts Mexico City and worked with Borglum on Stone Mountain, will create carved panels depicting Texas history at Texas A&M College. He notes one inch to the foot models guided the Black Hills work with no scaffolding. Washington’s half-figure will be 25 feet wide with a 60 foot head. Jefferson will follow, Lincoln remains unstarted. Public funds will match federal donations, with an estimated 500000 needed and five to six years more to finish the monument.

Lions Club Hears Plans For Steep Hollow Reorganization

Lion Vice President Madison Bell presided in President Hale’s absence as the club discussed a Steep Hollow reorganization on Thursday. Master Albert Operstein performed three selections while new members H. C. Dillingham and Dr. Sidney Perry were welcomed. The group planned 12:15 pm to 1:30 pm meetings, announced an April East Texas event, and awarded an attendance prize to Cub Perry.

Suspended Sentence for Black Person in District Court Case

Harris Mathews, a Black individual, faced a criminal case involving a partially paralyzed Black girl. A district court jury found him guilty and imposed a five year state prison term with a recommendation of suspension during good behavior. The jury deliberated overnight.
