Young Attorney Honored in District Court
Butler Hickman a Brazos law student soon to be admitted to the Texas bar was honored by Judge W C Davis in district court on Friday. He aided Lamar Bethea in Harris Mathews defense for a criminal attack on a partially paralyzed girl delivering the opening speech. A stenographic report of his address was ordered for posterity. Bethea praised the speech as very good.

Three Year Term Is Given Negro In Reed Attack
Sylvester Steen, a negro, was found guilty in district court of assault with intent to murder for the Reed attack. He received a three year term in state prison. Lamar, Steen's attorney, plans a new trial. Jesse Steen, alleged to have aided the attack, will be tried later, likely Monday.

Senate to act on 3.2 beer bill after House approval
Washington reports the House passed the Cul len 3.2 per cent beer bill and sent it to the Senate. Senate leaders plan to expedite the measure as President Roosevelt urged action, with expectations the bill could reach the president for signature before the week ends. Rep Blanton of Texas warned that unanimous consent could not stop the bill.

1834 Gold Piece Turned in Here by Hearne Negro
Montgomery Ward cashiers found a dated 1894 five dollar gold piece turned in by an elderly Hearne man described as a negro. The coin was slightly larger than later issues and, in good condition, prompted questions about its value before being sent to the bank for the federal hoard.

Brazos County Rhode Island Red hens owned by Henry Herndon earned top national standings in four months of Standard tests. The John Tarleton College entries in Stephenville placed second among eight in the country with 937 eggs and 965 points and won first among Texas pens. February records show 1165 eggs and 1205.51 points, placing them among the nation’s top ten with about 125 eggs per hen.

County RFC Funds Arrive For Bryan Brazos County Work
The first $1,000 RFC installment for Bryan and Brazos counties was received from Austin this morning. A similar amount is expected soon, with the remainder due by month end. The Marell city and county allowance is $4,000, same as January and February. About 100 RFC laborers work daily on the South College Avenue sewer project.

Negro Pleads Guilty to Prohibition Violation

Pneumonia Fatal To Griff Cloud Buried Tuesday
William Griffith Cloud 29 died Monday afternoon at his Bryan home after a five day pneumonia illness. Born in Kurten, he lived in Bryan all his life and was a 1921 Bryan High School graduate. He left A and M College in 1925 to run Piggly Wiggly in Bryan, later becoming owner and manager until his death. Married December 25, 1929 to Frances Wilkes of Bastrop. Survived by widow, his parents, two brothers Glenn and Robert L. Cloud, and two sisters Mrs Irma C Hensarling and Mildred Cloud. Funeral services were held at 4 o clock this afternoon from the late residence.

Bedias Blaze Destroys Church and Homes in Wind-Driven Fire
A wind fueled fire from John Stewart’s flue near 2 10 p m destroyed the First Baptist church and two homes in Bedias while damaging eight or nine others. The J C Griffith home also burned as Madisonville and Navasota fire crews contained the blaze and two people were injured.

Eagle Menace Drives Antelope Herd in Guadalupe Mountains
ALAMOGORDO N M March 11 A Cienega rancher Will Brownfield witnessed a golden eagle pursue a herd of 12 antelope high in the Guadalupe mountains. The eagle forced the herd to move until the weakest was exhausted then swooped in to kill it, attacking other game as it fed. Brownfield called the eagles a menace to wild game in the Guadalupes.

Funeral services for Wade Harvey Jones 43 a Wellborn resident and World War veteran were held Sunday at 2 30 pm at MacCulloch Dansby funeral parlor with Rev Roy S Holloman in charge. Interment followed at Minter Springs cemetery with Rev Jim Brown officiating. He died Friday in Legion after a two year illness. He is survived by his wife three children and a sister Mrs T B Robinson of Bryan.

Internationally Known Sculptor Talks Monument Plan in Dakota
Hugo Villa of San Antonio, longtime chief sculptor for Gutzon Borglum, spoke to the Bryan Lions on the Mount Rushmore national monument project.
