The Interstate Commerce Commission refused permission for the Waco Beaumont Trinity and Sabine Railway to build about 100 miles of new track from Beaumont to West Port Arthur Texas with a Port Neches Port Arthur branch. Resident of Brazos Twenty-Five Years Ago Visits College Station

N Robinson and wife of Athens came to College Station to visit his son Jed a freshman at A and M College. He noted hazing not mentioned by his son and praised recent college improvements. He once lived in Bryant, twenty five years ago working for Haswells Book Store and now runs a drug store in Athens and another in Chandler. He recalled Bryan’s past, with sand streets, and cotton in 41 000 bales a season traded from nearby farmers before railroads.

County considers funding a full time Negro nurse

A Brazos County Health Board committee led by Mrs. Leidigh asked the County Commissioners for 300 dollars yearly to support a full time Negro health nurse in Brazos County. Backing includes 250 from Mr Howell and 800 from local Negro physicians with Bryan city and county hopes for 150 and 300 respectively. If the county pledges 1,000 annually the State Bureau of Hygiene will match to 2,000 for Negro health work.

Farmer of Millican Injured in Auto Smashup

C. D. Davis of Millican, a farmer, was driving a lumber wagon on College avenue in Bryan when struck by a Ford touring car from Galveston. The collision smashed two wagon wheels, broke the tongue, and wrenched his shoulder. The car did not stop, prompting an aggravated assault with a car investigation. the Galveston tax collector will be contacted to identify the owner.

The Bryan College Traction Company held its annual stockholders meeting in the Chamber of Commerce rooms with strong attendance. President Edge reviewed the treasurer J M Gordon’s report while noting the board cannot declare a dividend. The company faces a key issue from automobile owners who take passengers. stockholders urged curbing this to maintain operation. A nine-member board was elected: Lawrence, Edge, Astin, Bolton, Wipprecht, Howell, Chance, Gordon, Sullivan. Nightwatchman tied to tree during failed Sanger bank robbery

In Sanger Ohio County March 11 robbers failed to open the Guaranty State Bank vault after their acetylene torch broke. They captured night-watchman Pack Hampton and dragged him into nearby woods where he was tied to a tree before motorists heard his cries and he was released. Four men and a woman were named by Hampton as the assailants.
