Fire Rages Through Tokyo Slashing Water Supply

A vast blaze swept Northern Tokyo spreading across districts aided by a gale. Troops tear down houses as firemen struggle with exhausted reservoirs and a deathly drought. By evening 206,000 people were homeless with 3,000 buildings destroyed and unknown casualties. The fire was brought under control later tonight.

Maurine Neeley Celebrates Sixth Birthday With St Patrick Party

On Tuesday afternoon at the Neely home Maurine Erin Neeley celebrated her sixth birthday with a St Patrick’s Day party for over thirty friends. Games followed by angel food cake and ice cream cones, with favors of Easter baskets. Green and white decorations honored Ireland’s patron saint. Guests included Maurine’s friends and neighbors, with assistance from Mrs. W. E. Neeley and several hostesses from the Barron and related families.

Austin March 18 The State highway commission orders loyalty to state administration and nine hours a day work. Cigarettes and liquor are banned for all division engineers maintenance superintendents and county foremen. Do not waste time rolling cigarettes or smoking on the job. Drinking alcohol on department premises is prohibited. If nine hours a day is too long, resign. Be courteous to the public.

Norris reappointed to Texas Board of Water Engineers

John A. Norris of Wharton was reappointed to the State Board of Water Engineers for a six year term as chairman. Norris first joined the board in 1918, was reappointed in 1919, and has led major reclamation and conservation efforts in Texas since 1921.

Julian Pennybacker of Palestine representing the Houston Chronicle toured east and central Texas and western Louisiana. A former A and M College student, he noted scholarship funding shaped his path and recalled teaching at Brazos County’s Womack area before joining the Chronicle nearly 23 years ago. Dynamite used in attempted murder shocks Texas town

Edward Wittliff confessed to dynamiting his brother in law Reinhold Fricke's farmhouse near Waco after months of alleged grievances. Fricke, asleep in the wrecked house, survived with minor injuries. Wittliff, jailed on assault to murder and arson charges, faces an examining trial Friday. The blast destroyed the five room home and left Fricke hospitalized in Providence sanitarium.

Wowers Club Meets at Mrs Colson Home in Tabor

The Woman's Club of Tabor met March 11 at Mrs. W. G. Colson's home with few members, Miss Roten among them. Major L L McInnis of the First National Bank returned from Llano where his brother H Russell McInnis died Monday afternoon. The Llano man aged 86 was longtime Llano county judge and prominent lawyer.
