Short Course Notes Highlight Texas Agricultural Week

Veteran contenders for outdoor entertainment at Short Course week enjoyed a Bryan and Victoria led program at Kyle Field while a public address system by Lieut Neal showcased the event. Notables include Mrs Wilhelmina Beane from Houston Press and 4‑H and farm women speakers from Paris to Port Arthur with writers conferences and agricultural exhibits planned across Aggieland.

Aged Negro Dead Bob Needham a Familiar Bryan Figure

Bob Needham known as Uncle Bob, a former slave aged about 79, died Tuesday night and was buried Wednesday in Bryan's negro cemetery section. He spent half a century as a familiar presence in Bryan, serving the Mawhinney family, visiting white businesses, singing for small change, and enjoying the Sunday comics he could not read. He leaves a step daughter in Waco who did not attend the funeral.

Mass Production And Hi Quality Is Farmer Need

College Station, July 26. B S Burgess of Dallas urged applying manufacturing principles to cotton farming at Texas A M College short course. He said improving quality over acreage is key and that cotton farmers are manufacturers on their farms who must produce more and better cotton at lower cost. He warned against limiting production to domestic needs to avoid foreign sales losses and stressed market-ready quality under farmer control.

Hoover Extends Open Season for Ducks and Geese

President Hoover, acting on Secretary Hyde's recommendation, lengthens the open season for waterfowl hunting from one to two months this fall. Ducks brent and coot in Texas will be hunted from November 1 to December 31 in the west and north, and from November 16 to January 15 in the south and east.

Mrs. H Price of Woodside credits Kruschen with rapid weight loss from 190 pounds to 126 pounds in a year. She says she looks younger than a mother of two and advises taking a half teaspoonful in hot water each morning before breakfast.

Home Made Rugs Exhibit at Texas A&M During Short Course

Sixty five hooked rugs mats and purses crafted by home demonstration club women are on display in room 117 Main Building as part of the twenty third annual short course for farm and ranch people. The show runs 8 am to noon and 1 pm to 5 pm daily with some items for sale. Information available from Miss Mamie Lee Hayden. Also features miniature county and home demonstration exhibits in Guion Hall and an exhibit of cakes by home demonstration women in the college mess hall parlor.
