Red Cross aids veteran in clothing request

A World War II veteran visited the Bryan Red Cross seeking clothing. Promised pants belt and shirt by 2 pm were ready, but he did not return until after 3 pm. He had been shaven and dressed and declined the suit, saying he was already “fixed up” and left it for someone else in need.

Bryan Federation Of Young People Set For July 31

The Bryan Federation of Young People’s societies will assemble at College Avenue Baptist church at 4 p m on Sunday July 31 with Heber Stewart as president. Oak McKenzie of First Methodist will be principal speaker, four minute talks by several youth groups, and special music by Epworth League. The federation cabinet has approved a time limit policy for speakers, with the principal speaker limited to twelve minutes.

Woman of Bryan Falls Victim to Sudden Illness

Mrs. C. E. Jowers, long time Bryan and Brazos county resident, died at Wilkerson Clinic early Monday after a 24 hour illness. Her daughter Mrs. Walter J. Higgs, away in Waco, was notified and reached her bedside as illness worsened. (Continued on Page 6)

Plans Set for Bryan Federation Meet

Tonight a federation cabinet meeting at the First Methodist church will finalize the first program for the Bryan federation of young peoples societies. Two Cobb boys ages about ten and fifteen near Wix on Lake crawled under an old log house during a severe storm. A bolt splintered the structure but caused no burns and the lads were unconscious for an hour or more before recovering.

Heat Wave Reduces Cotton Insects Across Texas

Dr. F L Thomas reports a July heat wave from July 12 18 that proved very unfavorable for boll weevils and other cotton insects. Natural control rose in northeast Texas and central regions while flea hoppers and bollworms declined due to stressed plant growth. Texas farmers and Texas A and M College must lead national economic recovery as Edward A. O Neale of Chicago urges unity for a Lone Star Farm Bureau. McCullough Named to Ethics Committee of Texas Executives
