Free Baptist Picnic Draws Busy Crowd at McCulloch Pasture

The Free Baptist Church Sunday School held its annual picnic Thursday afternoon at 5. A hundred or more people traveled by auto to McCulloch's pasture on the Sandy Point road, two miles from Bryan. Food and fellowship marked the event, with both young and old enjoying the outing.

Austin July 12 The state collects around 200000 in inheritance taxes from two large estates. P A Chapman of Waxahachie valued at 3500000 with tax about 115000 and William Buchanan of Texarkana valued at 2127236 with tax about 85000. Comptroller appraises both estates.

Eastern Star Chapter Funds Room at Arlington Home

Bryan Chapter No. 222 Order of the Eastern Star will have its name carved on a brass plate for a room in the new Eastern Star Home at Arlington. The group voted to donate 250 dollars, with 108.75 dollars already paid, and a committee was named to raise the rest.

Sheriff Oversees Busy Patrol as Two Suspects Nabbed

Deputy Charley Saxon traveled to Cameron and back bringing William Swede and Annie McGrew, both accused of causing a disturbance on a June farm. He also reported a free for all at a home near the Negro School where a wife accused her husband of beating her. the suspects were arrested late last night.

Beautiful July Fourth revival closes after successful service

Longview July 15 The Free Will Church revival at Campbell near Longview ended after a well attended meeting led by Rev. FE H. Jameson of Tatum. July Fourth events included 11 oclock preaching, reading of the Declaration and Lincoln's Gettysburg address, flag raising, games, and a sunset flag ceremony with taps and reverent lowering. Ku Klux Klan Parade Held in Henderson

On July 8 the Ku Klux Klan in Henderson led a parade with about 800 participants from surrounding towns. About half wore masks. the group included a 35 member band playing Onward Christian Soldiers as they marched. Crops in Rusk and Panola counties suffer. cotton replanted multiple times and corn prospects poor.

Cotton Classers Medal Winners Announced at A and M College

At the Cotton Classing school closing at A and M College, medal contests crowned A A Ashley of Linton as experienced classers winner and W G Kinney of Johnson City as beginners winner. Eighteen beginners and fourteen experienced entered. final grades trimmed to three in each class. The gold medal bears the A and M seal with a bale of cotton on the front and engraving on the back.

Reliance Community Club Organized On Saturday Night

The Reliance community formed a new club with about 75 attendees at the Reliance church last Saturday. Walter Lloyd was named president with Henry Shirley as vice president and Mrs Walter Lloyd as secretary. The group plans meetings on the second Saturday each month and set Alma Mathis as a 2 minute speaker and Jim Saxon as song leader for Brazos County Day at the A and M Short Course.

Two Lads Arrested After Bank Robbery Attempt at Rowena

John Keys aged 18 and Virgil Harding aged 20 were jailed Thursday after a dramatic automobile chase ended their attempt to rob the First National Bank at Rowena in Runnels county ten miles west of here. Bryan visitors Mrs. P L Barron and Mrs A B McSwain of Wellborn were among those present.

Steep Hollow Plans Brazos County Day at Short Course

About 150 residents gathered at the Steep Hollow school house to organize Brazos County Day at the Short Course. Miss Laura Mims presided as permanent chair and outlined plans to send a representative crowd, with County Agent C L Benson stressing the program’s community benefits. The Bryan Brazos County Chamber of Commerce pledged support and a small group will enter an eliminations contest.

The Trant family hosts a large barbecue at Ferguson Crossing near Bryan with 100 plus guests from Iola Bedias and Bryan. W. P. Tardy party home from vacation in the Citrus Valley

Mrs R G Tabor of Oklahoma City writes to The Eagle praising the home town paper and wishing it luck and success for the future. The Tabors once lived in Bryan for years, owned a Col lege Boulevard house now occupied by Dr and Mrs F D Fuller, and Mrs Tabor was Sallie Wilkerson before marriage. They left Bryan about twenty years ago and are remembered by many Brazos county friends.
