Kurten Picnic Draws About 1500 In Groves Near Free Baptist Church
The Kurten community picnic drew about 1500 people to the grove near the Free Baptist church north of the village. Rev J J Kasiske led the community band that supplied music. A noon feast featured improvised tables and a 18 inch cake that raised 31 dollars, with gains from cake resales and balloon sales adding to funds for the Kurten band and school projects. Professor D J McDonald announced five teachers next term and a two room addition to convert to an auditorium for 500 seating, praised County Agent Benson and Miss Laura Belle Roten, and thanked organizers for their work.

Fire devastates McClesky Hotel block in Ranger
Six people are confirmed dead and thirteen injured after a blaze that started in the McClesky Hotel at 1 45 AM. One boy is missing, and three unidentified bodies have been recovered as Eastland and Ranger fire crews battle the flames and control the surrounding district.
