International meeting eyed reform and trade openness

Delegates at a five day gathering discussed ending secret commissions and bribery among nations, supporting a commission to study trade barriers and promote international broadmindedness. The convention sat July 14 to 18 at the Empress Hotel in Vancouver and included 52 district clubs under Col. Mid’s supervision from Liberty to Junction.

Dog Aids Master To Fish In Canada

H. FE. Hoover, Canadian attorney, owns a seven year old shepherd dog known as a German police dog that helps him fish at the lake. The dog watches the cork and line and signals Hoover at any nibble. Hoover recalls a day when fish were biting fast andBo refused to return home, showing the dog’s unusual attachment to the fishing routine.

Burleson Farm Opens for Public Inspection Near Whitney

Former Texas Attorney General Albert S. Burleson invites visitors to inspect his 10 000 acre Hill county livestock farm twelve miles west of Whitney on Wednesday July 6. The farm hosts 250 registered Poll cattle 1600 sheep and 200 to 1000 turkeys with oat and corn crops for cattle feed. Bryant Woman Dies. Funeral Held With Juniper Grove Burial

Mrs. Smith is a long time Bryan resident born August 3 1893 died aged 88 and her funeral was Sunday at 4 pm with interment at Juniper Grove cemetery near Poplarville. She was married to H P Smith in 1918 and moved to Texas in 1920 to work at A and M College. She leaves husband two sons Harris and Bob Stewart Smith and many siblings and her mother Mrs Ora Jesse Stewart of Poplarville. Kernole Store Burglary Reports Second Break-In This Season

The Kernole store on Steep Hollow road near Bryan was entered Thursday night through a broken window. Eight or ten cartonsof freerenre were taken. No clues left for investigators. It is the second burglary at the Kernole store in recent months.

Judge W. C. Davis of the fifth district arrived in Franklin to convene the Robertson county July term. The grand jury was sworn in and began the investigation of matters submitted by County Attorney T. L. Tyson.

St Joseph's Catholic church athletes at the Ennis Catholic Athletic Association meet win fourteen honors in track field and gymnastics. Adolph Kucera takes state high jump and best horse width. Paul Muth best all around in class two and state shot put. Vine Luza and Herman Putz win best horse width and pole vault in class two. Johnnie Zemanek leads horses in length. Rotary Officers Of District 47 To Meet July 25

Rotary District 47 officers including presidents secretaries and major committeemen from 52 clubs will gather at Austin July 25 and 26 for a district assembly to train new officers for the coming year Col C C Todd district governor said. District 47 covers clubs from Liberty to Bryan to Junction and Rio Grande to Brownsville and Liberty. the rest of the state is split into two other districts.

Coyote Hooks a Fisherman Then Breaks Free at Santa Maria Pass

J W Wilson of a Bay area fishing party at Santa Maria Pass northern Mexico says he caught a coyote on his line. The coyote bit the bait and got the hook in its jaw, but escaped. Wilson tethered the line to his wrist and slept when the coyote yanked it. the animal freed itself and fled.

Colonial Day Program Presented by Baptist Girls

The Young Women's Auxiliary of the College Baptist church hosted a Colonial Day program at Mrs. R. L. Brown's home in observance of the Fourth of July. Attendees wore colonial costumes and presented a patriotic program including pledges, songs, a history survey, and readings. The group discussed plans for the association's event at Bryan First Baptist Church on July 14. A social hour followed with iced watermelon.

Baylor Student Bennie Griffin Set for Wednesday Sermon

Bennie Griffin a ministerial student at Baylor University will preach at the Wednesday morning service of the College Avenue Baptist revival in that church at 9 o clock. Griffin preached Sunday afternoon at Prospect before a congregation of about 35 or 40 and was well received.

Longtime Brazos County leader Buchanan dies after public service

The obituary outlines the life of Mr. Buchanan, born in Brazos county, who edited the Brazos Pilot in Bryan, served as postmaster, merchant, and then moved into extension work. He held key Texas Extension Service roles from 1911 onward, including district agent for District No. 7, and was active in Baptist, Masonic, Woodmen, Knights of Maccabees, and Patrons of Husbandry groups. He married Anna Peters in 1882 and had six children, four living.
