Hog Breeding Timed for Spring and Fall Market Peaks

Amarillo reports hog expert E M Regenbrecht of Texas A M College advises farmers to time breeding to hit March or late summer markets, with premiums of one and a half to two cents a pound. He notes last year was an exception and explains northern breeders hold pigs for corn, so southern breeders should avoid market when northern hogs are dumped.

Construction on Texas A and M College building resumes after injunction dismissal

Work on the agricultural engineering building at Texas A and M College resumed Friday after a San Antonio and El Paso contractor suit to halt the project citing noncompetitive bids. The district court in San Antonio dismissed the injunction Thursday. Plaintiffs Wieland of San Antonio and McKee of El Paso claimed the college board’s June 4 resolution favored the lowest bidder.

Bethea Reports a Sane Chicago Democratic Convention

Lamar Bethea, the lone local member of the Senate delegation, returned home from Chicago praising the convention as sane and sober from start to finish. He says he was present and voting throughout and commends Gov. Ely and Sen. Connally as outstanding speakers. Bethea believes Texas and California helped Roosevelt win and that Smith supporters shifted to party principles for the upcoming campaign.

Independence Homecoming Date Set at Independence Baptist Church

The 1932 Independence Homecoming is scheduled for Sunday August 14 announced by Gus A. Newman of Houston president of the Independence Homecoming Association. Former Student Joins Allen Academy Faculty

Allen Academy announces B. L. Price will join the English department for the new year. Price earned an A B at Baylor, did graduate work at Columbia, Harvard, and Sorbonne, holding a master's in English with a history minor. Weevil Infestation Heavier This Year Says Texas Expert

Dr. F L Thomas, chief entomologist at the Texas Agricultural Experiment Station, reports boll weevil infestation is higher this year than last season. He cites percentages from five year field samples near Brazos and Burleson counties and notes a surge in cotton flea hoppers slowing square development and causing injury as plants grow.

House Screening In Malaria War Shown Friday

Residents of Brazos county visited the Wilson farm on Kurten road where H. O. Wilson an anti malaria expert of the State Board of Health demonstrated how to screen and paper a house to be mosquito proof. The four room job would cost about $10. Attendees included George A. Former Resident Loses Young Son Struck by Taxi

Mr and Mrs D C DeMaret of Virginia Highlands near Washington City D C received word Tuesday that their eight year old son Jean DeMaret was killed when a taxi struck his bicycle, running over him and killing him instantly. The taxi driver was held for questioning. Jean was the only child of Seth DeMaret by a second marriage and was born and reared in Bryan.

A M College Cow Sets Production Record

In Peterboro New Hampshire a two year old Guernsey cow from the A M College of Texas named Defiance's Bell 271280 has set an official production record. She made 8816.5 pounds of milk and 357.3 pounds of fat in class E earning entry in the Advanced Register of the American Guernsey Cattle Club.

Funeral Held For Bryan Woman After Prolonged Illness

Amelia Stuart Smith died Saturday morning after several weeks with typhoid fever. Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. at McCulloch-Dansby funeral chapel conducted by Rev. John L. Wharton. A quartet sang two hymns and floral tributes filled the chapel. The body was shipped at 4 p.m. via the Sunbeam train to Poplarville Mississippi for interment with her husband H. P. Smith accompanying.

City Well Testing After Layne Texas Drilling

Bryan Rotary club president elect J F Casey reports from Seattle after attending Rotary International convention June 20 to 24. He praises Pacific Coast weather and Seattle hospitality with 3000 courtesy cars for about 5200 delegates. He wore a winter suit until Los Angeles and slept under two blankets most nights. Crash Kills Jacksonville Man on Monday Afternoon

Grady Davis Jr. and his uncle Tom Gresham of Bryan were notified Monday of the death of G. M. Davis in an automobile accident on Jacksonville streets around 5 p.m. Funeral services for G. M. Davis were held at 4 p.m. at his home 609 North Bolton Street. G. M. Davis was brother-in-law of J. F. Casey of Bryan and College.

Fourth of July OBSERVANCE AT LEGION POST BRYAN

The Earl Graham Post American Legion hosted a Fourth of July celebration at its new Bryan area home with a Bryan Community Band concert led by Henry Locke. The day began at 6 AM with a 21 salute and reveille, drawing a large crowd for morning speeches by Oak McKenzie, J. H. Cyclones Davis, W. C. Davis, F. L. Henderson, and J. J. Davis. A barbecue followed, and the afternoon featured Cy clons Davis campaigning for Congress while Allred spoke for re-election as Texas attorney general.

Fourth of July Celebration Declared Great Success

Albert Goodman chairman of the Earl Graham post American Legion committee praised the Fourth of July celebration as ideal with a fine crowd and attendees pleased. He could not provide a financial statement. Louis Mauro, linked to a local meat market, received the Chevrolet coach from the post and thanked the Legion publicly.
