Home demonstration agents exhibit at the 1932 State Fair of Texas will represent 85 percent of the farm families in 116 Texas counties. Miss Mildred Horton said in Dallas last weekend that the demonstration work reaches nearly 85 percent of farm families in those counties. Clubwomen extend reach as agents for nonclub farm women, with records kept by nine district agents feeding into the state office for the annual county exhibit.
Rear Admiral Richard E. Byrd will take Valley grapefruit on his second Antarctic voyage. Boston headquarters informed the Rio Grande Valley Citrus Exchange that ample fruit will be provided, though no fresh Valley fruit is available now. Bottled and canned grapefruit will be shipped if the Admiral is reachable.
Grimes county farmers learned that curing meat at home costs one cent more per pound with summer refrigeration. In Navasota on June 20, 63 hogs totaling 8731 pounds were killed and placed in cold storage, then cured. Demonstrations showed shoulder butts and Canadian bacon need seven days to cure, side bacon 10 to 14 days, picnic shoulders 14 to 21 days, and ham 25 to 40 days.

The Texas Cotton Co-Operative Association designates Bryan as the main office for its branch territory including Robertson Brazos Grimes and nearby counties. The office opens around July 1 with Tom Field as branch manager and W B Armstrong in charge. several licensed classers will assist. Bryan will host the year round office with local staff and aim to become a concentration and storage point using Bryan Compress Company facilities.
Bryan Carnegie Library officials reported the busiest days in history on Saturday and Monday with 318 books issued Saturday and 237 Monday. The prior single day record was 218 books, exceeded on both days.

Farmers in Brazos county report a self styled subscription agent for Capper publications has been taking money and farm produce to fund a nationwide tax reduction drive. The man claims to seek up to one million dollars. Some donors paid cash or checks while others gave poultry and produce. officers have not captured him and the chamber of commerce seeks information from Capper publications.
Miss Lelia Fay Mathis daughter of Mr and Mrs J H Mathis recently returned from Fort Worth where she graduated from the Baptist Theological Seminary at Seminary Hill She plans to go as a missionary to foreign fields and is at home in Bryan awaiting assignment She attended First Baptist Church Sunday at 11 o clock and will remain in Bryan until called to duty.
Tom Dunlap a man described as from Oklahoma was arrested Saturday night and charged with carrying a prohibited weapon. He was lodged in the county jail on the misdemeanor charge.
A community pie supper and cake sale at Steep Hollow raised about 50 for the school to apply toward the Delco lighting system. Local and state candidates attended and spoke, including Oak McKenzie for James Allred and Chas DeWare for railroad commissioner.

Rufus H. Chatham aged 75 died Sunday at his home in Aledo. Funeral held Monday at 4 pm in Aledo cemetery with interment in the family lot. He was a son of pioneer Bryan residents and cousin to Ralph Chatham. Survived by widow a son and a daughter all of Aledo. He worked 27 years for Murray Machinery Co of Dallas, retiring two years ago due to age.
Reported by county peace officers J C Mason and Reuben Kizell two Black men peppered each other with bird shot in a Sunday duel at Candy Hill with 20 cents stake. Sheriff J H Reed and Contable Horace Reed halted the incident. both men sustained minor wounds and were bonded on assault to commit murder charges.
A grass fire started from a trash fire at 3 15 PM Monday in the rear of Dr. Lamar Jones' residence caused no damage.
Chief Tillis and Constable Horace Reed with Joe Carnes traveled to Hearne to identify two men arrested Friday in connection with a violent attack on Mrs. Smith a roominghouse keeper. One suspect Jack Rachler was identified. the second, Roy Graham, could not be named by the victim. Mrs. Smith remained alive with a good chance of recovery.

Division Engineer J E Blair announced two Bryan Brazos county road projects. The Hempstead Brenham gap is completed and a Brenham to Navasota river concrete contract will be let June 30. The work improves access to Brenham and provides Bryan with a hard surface highway to the state capital.
The bi county organization of the Lutheran Young Peoples Societies in Brazos and Grimes counties formed Sunday at Kurten. About 100 youths from Kurten Anderson and White Hall attended the all day rally at the Kurten schoolhouse hosted by Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church. A closing art session led to an educational business meeting.
