Fifteen College Station Baptists plus members from Reliance Cottonwood and Navasota churches left Monday for Palacios to attend the annual B Y P U encampment for Texas spanning the week. Bryan Postoffice to Close Saturdays at 1 P.M

The Bryan post office will close every Saturday at 1:00 p.m. beginning July 8 1933 in cooperation with the National Economy program. Window service ends at 1 p.m. for the day while mail handling continues in lock boxes and outgoing mail remains dispatched.

City workers repairing a break on Ursuline Avenue found deteri orated cast iron pipe that crumbled like brittle lattice. A second break forced consideration of a new main, possibly replacing a 1913 installation laid with second hand pipe.

Two Men Injured In Knife Fights Over Week End

Rudolph Wilbur is hospitalized with serious cuts at Wilkerson Memorial Clinic after an alleged attack near Harvey Sunday afternoon. Elmo Weedon is in custody awaiting a preliminary hearing once Wilbur’s condition clarifies. A Mexican man with multiple knife wounds also seeks treatment at the clinic following an early Sunday altercation on Robertson county plantations.

Tenant Cotton Rentals Under Government Adjustment Rules

The cotton adjustment plan aims to keep tenants receiving their customary cash rental share from government payments. If a tenant owes the landlord, the two may agree to use part or all of the advances against the tenant’s cash share. The government intends to preserve the traditional rental arrangement even when tenants avoid picking labor.

Public program and barbecue at A and M campus

Dr Jessie Whitacre and Miss Bess Edwards led a morning event from 11 to 12 oclock followed by a barbecue luncheon for more than 700 guests. The program included talks broadcast on Station WTAW and a round table discussion with leaders from the experiment station and local organizations.

Hammond Killing Probed by Robertson County Grand Jury

Atty Grace says the June 9 slaying of Ledelle Hammond at the Hearne highway underpass and the related shooting and robbery of escort Ervin Conway are under grand jury review. Grace reports the case is mostly formal due to limited evidence while Conway plans to appear. a revolver found nearby is being investigated for links to a prior Hearne shooting. Conway recovers from a shoulder infection.

Bryan visitors from soil erosion camp tour city

Finley R. White and Heber Stewart of the Cleburne soil erosion camp visited Bryan over the Fourth of July weekend. They reported the camp work progressing well with 200 men, mostly older high school and early college students, shaping camping quarters and starting earnest field work.

Lane Held to Grand Jury on Burglary Charge

Jewel Lane was held to the grand jury by Justice J. T. McGee Monday for burglary of a negro home. Bond was set at $250. Lane already under a five year suspended forgery sentence.

Texas Farmers Hope to Meet Cotton Acreage Quota

College Station July 3. O B Martin director of the Texas Extension Service says Texas may meet its 4 493 000 acre minimum cotton reduction quota by Saturday night with over 4000 field workers plus business leaders aiding the effort. He expects all farmers to sign government offers before week’s end and notes the campaign runs through July 24 opening the twenty fourth annual short course. He adds that less cotton means more meat feed food hides and syrup markets, and emphasizes adapting farming to new conditions.
