In its closing remarks the Film Committee of the PTA thanks supporters including Bond and the Allen Academy band, Eleanor Lucas and pupils, the D A R, Schulman, Cash ion, local theater managers, and the Bryan Daily Eagle for ongoing coverage and backing of better children's pictures. The Eagle has published the PTA rating and related pieces weekly since last September. The move is described as the story book of age with a silver screen full of tales.

Convicts kidnap warden during Kansas prison escape
Eight armed inmates seized Kirk Prather the Kansas penitentiary warden at the main gate using him as a shield during their escape from Lansing prison. Guard John Stewart was wounded while attempting to intervene at the prison baseball diamond where the breakout began.

Lawrence Store To Close May 31 After 25 Years
The T. K. Lawrence, Inc. men’s clothing store in Bryan will permanently close on May 31 after a 25 year history. The business has operated under several names but was led by Mr. Lawrence as a principal stockholder. Most stock has already been sold and the remainder will be disposed of by bids or bulk sale after Wednesday night.

Lee Sausley indicted on two prohibition counts pleaded guilty to one in district court Tuesday and received a four year suspended sentence. The other count was passed. Ida Yount, a Negro, charged with prohibition violations, had her case passed. Leola Bosier, a Negro, on arson charges for a Negro house fire near Smetana went to trial before Judge W C Davis.

Fire damages electric refrigerator motor at residence
The city fire department was called to the home of Mrs. J. H. Allen early this morning for a blaze in the motor of an electric refrigerator caused by a short circuit. No water was used and damage was slight.

Sam H. Wynn of Bryan remains critically ill after an operation for stomach obstruction performed Monday at Torbett's Sanitarium in Marlin. Blood transfusions were given several times. his son Charlie Wynn of Los Angeles was with him. Wynn, longtime Bryan Compress Co. employee, was reported improving late Monday then deteriorated, with friends awaiting hopeful news.

Third Kernole Assailant Sentenced to Prison
Ted Williams, one of three negroes indicted for assault with intent to commit murder in the Kernole attack, was found guilty and sentenced to four years in state prison. His two companions were convicted as well, receiving twelve years and two years respectively.

One of pair in hold up of Reese plant dies
In Wellborn Friday morning a youth from Austin was fatally wounded in a pursuit by Highway Patrolman J N Avery and Constable Horace Reed after two men robbed the Reese filling station Wednesday night. Lovell, 20, died after being shot in the abdomen near Bryan.

Refuse to Work Ousts Families From Relief List
Five negro families on Bryan and Brazos county relief lists were removed Saturday morning for refusing farm work offered in the area. County RFC committee members, working with Good Cheer and Red Cross officials, say this will be followed in all cases. Farmers needing labor may contact R. G. Williams, city manager and RFC county chairman, for lists and eligibility checks. If work is refused, they will be dropped from relief lists.

Funeral Service For Houstonian Held Here
L F Chmelski aged 50 died at home in Houston Friday after a brief illness. The remains were brought to Bryan for interment and the funeral was Sunday at St Josephs Catholic Church. Burial followed in the family plot at the Catholic cemetery. Survived by son Fred and three daughters Mrs Martin Biroski Mrs Bill Leonard and Mrs Arnold Osborn all of Houston. Two sisters Mrs Martha Vitopil of Bryan and Mrs Mary Lewis of Oklahoma.

John Hassler of San Marcos found a cow eating his baby chicks after a one man effort to stop rats. While walking through the yard he saw the cow seize and swallow a chick, confirming the animal turned carnivorous in this odd incident in San Marcos.

Buttermilk Jim Lowry Texas Newspaperman Dies After Long Service
J H Lowry a veteran Honey Grove newspaperman died after a long illness. He managed the Honey Grove Signal from 1893 to 1929 and helped merge it with the Honey Grove Citizen. He led the Texas Press Association as president in 1905 and served on the CSA board of regents. He is survived by his widow and daughter Mrs. C M Carbell.
