Brazos County GLA Club Organized Officers Elected

The Brazos County GLA club formed by CI A graduates and ex-students met at Mrs. A A Lenertons home on the college campus with an initial membership of twenty five. Officers named were Elizabeth Wright Spence president Riette Jones Wogen vice president Rosella Brawley White secretary treasurer and Vera Foreman Finley reporter. The group plans monthly meetings and closed the evening with a college tea.

Kurten farmer chooses mules over car in barn fire

Artie Hearne saved a pair of $75 mules from a blaze at his Kurten barn, sacrificing a brand new automobile. The fire destroyed the barn and contents, with estimates of $1,500 to $2,000 for the structure and car. The origin remains unknown, suspected arson in a string of barn blazes.

Edge Club Elects Officers for Year

The Edge Girl's club met with twenty members and elected D. D. McAlpine as president and John Thompson as secretary treasurer for the coming year. The meeting featured talks on proper food for children and plans for January work.

Funeral Services For Ira Gooch Tuesday

Ira Gooch died January 26 in Navasota after a year long illness. A former Bryan resident, he owned livery property and worked with Chatham Machinery, later running a saddlery and undertaker business in Navasota. He was born July 28, 1854 in Mississippi and survived by a widow Laura and four children plus two sons from a previous marriage. The funeral in Navasota will be held January 27 at 11 am and the procession will reach Bryan for graveside rites at City Cemetery at 2:30 pm with E F Parks Undertaking Co in charge.

The funeral of Ira Gooch of Navasota was held at Bryan City Cemetery with services led by Rev W M Purcell and Dr John A Held. The procession traveled from Navasota, interment followed amid floral tributes from Nav asota Bryan Houston and other Texas cities with pallbearers listed.

Anson visitor recounts Elward Wilson and son in Tabor visit

Anson Texas January 19 letter from Mr. Wilson and his son Clyde describes a road trip from Anson to the Tabor community to visit old friends. They note heavy December snow that hindered crops, ongoing sickness and busy plowing, and invite Brazos County friends to stop by Box 178 Route A Anson Texas where the latch-string hangs out.

Funeral for Martin Kologinczak at St Josephs Church

Martin Kologinczak aged 90 died Monday at 4 am at the family home four miles east of Bryan after a long illness. Funeral services are Tuesday at 9 30 am from the family home and 10 am at St Josephs Church conducted by Rev Father J B Gleissner. Burial in Mount Calvary Cemetery under McCulloch Gordon Co. He leaves three sons Stanley and Walter of Bryan John of Ennis and daughter Mrs Mary Denglewith of Navasota. A European native, he farmed in Brazos county 45 years.

Madisonville Man Dies in Houston Theatre

George S. McLean 28 of Madisonville Texas died in Houston after a heart attack at the Capitol Theater while watching a film. He collapsed at 3 30 p m and later died in the Foster building office after unsuccessful medical efforts including a Heimlich pull motor. Justice Overstreet ordered an inquest and attributed death to heart failure from acute indigestion. He had just visited Houston with a friend and left behind a wife and two young children.

A and M Consolidated to Build Track and Baseball Units

After the basketball season ends, Coach Hughes shifts focus to track and baseball with high hopes for last year’s strong baseball showing to improve. The team faces Tabor at Allen Academy gym in a county Class B opener. Mid-term exams run Wednesday to Friday with no promotions or graduations. The senior class is about 21 in number, and a student may be named to correspond weekly for the Bryan Daily and Weekly Eagle.

McAdams Returns to Waco After Bryan Tenure

E. E. McAdams, ex Bryan city manager, will leave for Waco on Sunday with his mother-in-law Mrs A W Buchanan and daughter Jean. He will maintain a home at 2626 Morrow Avenue in Waco and invites Bryan friends to call when visiting. He thanks Bryan residents for kindness after his recent bereavement and says he remains fond of the city and its people.

College Station report by Ross M. Sherwood states a hen at the Experiment Station farm laid 303 eggs in twelve months under ordinary conditions without artificial light or special ration. The record was announced yesterday by Sherwood, chief of the farm.

Kurten Club Girls Entertained Manual Training Boys

Kurten club girls hosted the manual training class boys on January 21 at the Kurten school building. The gathering included a picnic dinner at 1 o clock, games, and a party until 2:30. Mrs. J F Hurff was absent due to sickness, and her vacancy was noted as unfillable. A box of appreciation was prepared for her by the girls, with Mr Hurff acting as chaperone.
