Bryan and Brazos Chamber hears best annual meeting

Dr. W B Bizzell of A and M College lauds the Bryan and Brazos County Chamber of Commerce annual meeting held Tuesday night at the Green Parrot Tea Room with about 250 attendees. The program highlighted honors to local achievers, a new Board of Directors was announced, and Secretary S B Eberstadt was praised for his service.

Mrs. P. A. Tardy Hurt in Leonard School Accident

Leonard school teacher Mrs. P. A. Tardy was injured on Fin-Feather road when a pupil darted into a path causing a fall into a deep ditch on school grounds. She was unconscious about 20 minutes but not seriously injured. a board member’s car provided first aid and she left to seek medical attention for a left wrist sprain.

Rabies Case Found in Bryan Dog Examined at A and M

A dog owned by Hugo Lenz in Bryan showed rabies like symptoms after suspected exposure to a mad dog. Veterinary authorities at the A and M College diagnosed the animal with dumb rabies and began monitoring. No other dogs were reported bitten, limiting spread risk.

Senate rejects bid to cut second class mail rates

The Senate rejected an amendment to the postal pay and rate bill to restore second class mail rates to 1920 levels. The proposal to apply 1920 rates only to newspapers was defeated as well.

Bratten Henderson Wins $5 Essay Prize on Santa Fe Trip

Bratten Henderson, one of 15 Texas boys awarded Santa Fe trips to Chicago in 1924, won a $5 prize for the best essay about his northern city journey. The prize was awarded by R. W. Persons of the Texas Extension Service at A and M College. Last year Fred Hale issued a similar prize.

Bridge Tea Honors Visiting Guests in Bryan

In Bryan a Monday bridge tea hosted by Mrs. Philip Arbuckle welcomed visitors Mrs. Waller T. Burns Jr of Temple Mrs. Horace Haydock of Philadelphia and Mrs. Edward Burns of New York among local bridge club members. Seven tables played with trophies awarded and pink florals framing a Valentine mood followed by iced salad.

Yale Law Student Kills Self After Rejected Marriage

Neeson Woods a 22 year old Yale law school freshman fired twice at Mrs. Georgia Warder 28 of Bridgeport WV then killed himself. Warder was wounded badly and taken to a hospital believed to have little chance of recovery. The tragedy followed her refusal to marry him.

Senate Reconsiders Probe of Texas State Prison

The Texas Senate approved a House ordered prison investigation after reconsidering a prior rejection by 15 to 12. A House sub-committee, which had gone to Huntsville, returned to continue the inquiry, prompted by disclosures from the Huntsville committee.

Paris January 29 The Chamber of Deputies voted 540 to 32 to approve printing and posting Premier Herriott s speech on security against Germany after socialists threatened revolt and Herriott warned he would resign if the measure failed.

S C Woitan of Fin-Feather road just south of Bryan arrived in town on crutches to pay taxes after a cow fell on his leg last Sunday morning. One leg is badly bruised and an ankle crushed, causing painful trouble.

Six Deaths In Scranton From Gas Leak

Illuminating gas from a broken main in West Scranton caused six deaths in the family of Louis Horosini. The victims include Mr and Mrs Horosini and their children Stanley five Upola eight Margaret three and a one year old daughter. Neighbors also affected but escaped to fresh air.

Negro boy rescued from fifty foot well near H C depot

Three young Negro boys cleaned the Fairman apartment yard when one fell into a fifty foot well. Neighbors lowered a garden hose for rescue. The boy was uninjured, with only his upper garments wet as the water did not cover him fully.

Death of David C. Dawson at Bryan home

David C. Dawson aged 72 years 2 months 23 days died Tuesday night at the family home in Bryan after a lingering illness. Funeral services were held Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. conducted by Rev. Wm. N. Sholl of the First Presbyterian Church. Burial followed in Steep Hollow Cemetery under McCulloch-Gordon Co. Funeral directors. Survived by four sons D. R. Dawson Millican Walter Dawson College Station Joe and Albert Dawson Bryan and five daughters Cassie Mills Wilson Emma Dehart Steep Hollow Pearl Dement Lovell Okla Lula Barrow and Laura Jolly Bryan. Born November 4, 1850 in Florida he came to Texas as a young man and farmed in Brazos County. his wife died a month ago.
