Agriculture as the Key to Economic Recovery

Frederick E Murp argues that recovery hinges on reviving agriculture. He cites drops in farm sector value from 18.6 to about 7.5 billion, warns of mechanization hurting price and acreage, and lists seven emergency measures including acreage reduction, import taxes on oils, tariff safeguards, mortgage relief, tax cuts for farms, war debt settlements, and repurposing surplus land for industrial raw materials. He frames agriculture as the driving shaft of the economy and urges decisive action for 1958 crop policy.

Edge Cattleman Plans to Buy Additional Land

J. H. Murphy of Edge, cattleman and farmer, arranged papers to purchase 114 acres from Dr. Burn of North Zuleh, about a mile from the Edge to Highway No. 4 cut-off. Forty acres have been cultivated, with 15 more to clear for growing corn maize and some cotton. Mrs. P. Paul Dansby suffered severe finger lacerations from a falling milk bottle that shattered on a chair.
