Benchley, Jan. 8. After weeks away I report small town news and recall the death of Barney Mitchell, Benchley’s aged resident and Ireland native about 90. Survived by four nieces and a great nephew, he lived with Mrs. Sikes for 12 years and rests in the family burying ground after a long illness.

Tabor Girl's Club Holds Regular Meeting

Miss Laura Belle Roten led a small group of four absentees at the Tabor Girl's Club meeting in Tabor on January 5. Plans include a club party and a combined boys and girls meeting to organize the boys, with Oscar Wilson as president and Miss Mary Locke assisting. Thomas Madison Holden Pioneer of Brazos County Dies

Thomas Madison Holden, born October 23 1846 in Rutherford County Tennessee, died December 31 1924 at 6 30 pm at the home of his son Walter Holden on College Road. He came to Texas in 1875, lived in Brazos County most of his life, was a life member of the Methodist church, survived by a daughter Mrs W G Blanton and two sons Horace Holden and Walter Holden. Parker-Astin Hardware Fire Doused Early

Fire at Parker-Astin Hardware was detected early Tuesday night. Clarence Hamilton, fire truck driver, said live coals ignited a wooden ash container near the stove, burning an eight inch square area. Buckets and immediate extinguishment prevented further damage with only a few dollars in loss.

Allen Smith and wife return from three week trip

Allen Smith and wife arrived noon Sunday after a three weeks visit to Chicago Philadelphia Boston New York and New Orleans. The trip mixed business and pleasure with Mr Smith contracting an ear issue after the flu as they left New Orleans. Mrs Smith wired Dr Raysor to meet them in Houston and he did. After a minor operation Sunday afternoon Mr Smith rests at home.

Dean E. J. Kyle Returns From Hunting Trip

Dean E. J. Kyle of the School of Agriculture, A and M College, came back to Bryan from Carrizzo Springs after a three day hunt. He stayed at E. F. Hamilton’s ranch and reported killing one buck and taking a daily quail bag limit. Kyle noted Hamilton owns a large West Texas sheep operation and wintered 9,000 lambs in Illinois, Kansas and other states.

Knights of Pythias Elect Officers At Tuesday Meeting

The local Knights of Pythias chapter elected officers at their Tuesday night session. Lonnie Locke was named chancellor commander with R. C. Franks as vice commander and R. E. Kellner as prelate. Other posts went to M. Birdwell, Robert Phillips, William Griffin, T. A. Cloud, Pat Newton, J. T. Maloney, and J. E. Gammon. Installation is planned for next Tuesday January 6.

Phelps-Satterwhite Nuptials At Caldwell Caledonian

Howard S. Satterwhite and Miss Maud Phelps married at Caldwell at 11 Wednesday morning. The couple traveled by auto to Bryan for a turkey wedding dinner at the groom’s parents home, then departed on the 2 55 H and T C train for a brief honeymoon in Houston and Galveston. Miss Phelps is the daughter of Mr and Mrs James Phelps of Chesman. Funeral services for Berry L. Johnson and his son Norman Johnson will be held Wednesday at 10 o'clock from the family home of his mother Mrs. L. M. Johnson in this city. Rev. C. B. Death of Jno F Kosh Jr at 21 prompts Friday funeral

Jno F Kosh Jr aged 21 years 4 months 25 days died Thursday morning at 9 o clock in a local hospital after a short illness. Todd White's Auto Damaged by Fire at Filling Station

A gasoline tank overflow ignited from a hot exhaust pipe Friday morning at Magnolia Filling Station. A burned front seat of a Ford was noted along with minor damage while Todd R White, manager of Bryan College Interburn, was being served. Firefighters and Foamite extinguished the blaze before the fire trucks arrived.

Methods Used by Philip Noto to Win Third Place Cotton Contest

Philip Noto of Brazos county earned third place in the More Cotton on Fewer Acres contest with 4,631 pounds of lint from five acres, plus 12,390 pounds seed cotton. His records show total seed 7,245 pounds and production cost about 9 cents per pound, with detailed seed, fertilizer, labor, and cultivation data and notes on pests. Luther Vaughn of Buffalo placed fourth with 3,830 pounds lint and 9,650 seed on five acres, citing lack of rainfall after June 2 as limiting factor.

Senators Sustain President Coolidge Postal Pay Veto

In Washington on Tuesday the Senate sustained President Coolidge's veto of the postal bill by a 55 to 29 vote, short of the two thirds needed to override. Halsell Motor Co Dodge Sedan Found in Santone Texas

The Halsell Motor Co Dodge sedan stolen from in front of the George Halsell home on College Avenue last Saturday night or early Sunday morning was found in San Antonio. The Texas Automobile Dealers Association, of which Halsell Motor Co of Bryan is a member, turned the car over to a local agency there. The car is reported in good condition and is at the Bodge Brothers agency. Kay Hassell plans to go to San Antonio to drive it back to Bryan.

Frank Ish Seen As Likely 1925 Waco Captain

Waco high star quarterback Frank Ish is likely to be elected captain of the 1925 Waco team. He played his first year this season and had a big year, becoming the state’s greatest high school placekicker. Sheriff Conlee Moves Insanity Case to San Antonio

John Williams of Cawthon, deemed insane weeks ago in a sanity court led by County Judge H. C. Ferguson with a jury, was transported by train to the state asylum in San Antonio on Friday. Sheriff Jess Conlee had him in custody and returned to Bryan that night.

The Boy Scouts of C R Gardner's troop met at the Scout Home Friday night at seven. The boys discussed troop business, played a while, and went home. Mrs Dansby Keeps Open House on New Year Day
