Captain and crew held by officials at Progreso

The captain and crew of the American sailing vessel Ruth of Pensacola Florida and a man claiming to be Dr W F Lorenz chairman of the Wisconsin State Board of Control have been jailed at Progreso Mexico by order of the port captain. No further details on the shipwreck are available.

Louis Morello 84 Dies at Home in Mudville

Louis Morello aged 84 of Mudville died Tuesday afternoon at his home. Funeral services were held Wednesday at St Anthony's church with Rev B Brain officiating. Burial followed in the Catholic cemetery. Surviving family includes his widow Jennie Morello, three sons Sam Pete and Charles Morello, and daughter Mrs Laura Marino. Mr Morello, Italian native, lived 30 years in Brazos county as a farmer. Burial by McCulloch Gordon Co. undertakers.

Former Texan Heads Chicago Banks Youngest President

Melvin A. Traylor, born 1878 in Breeding Kentucky, was yesterday elected president of both the First National and First Trust and Savings Bank in Chicago. He previously held banking roles in Hillsboro Ballinger and Malone Texas before moving to Chicago.

Former Bryan Resident Luther Hall Dies in Trinity

Luther Hall aged 66 died at his Trinity Texas home on Sunday January 11 funeral services will be at his niece Mrs Paul Dansby North Washington avenue Bryan will send the body with Clifford Martin nephew and interment at Alexander Cemetery Tuesday. Plan for Full Time Nurse for Black Population in Brazos County

A movement in Brazos County seeks a full time nurse to work among the negro community to improve living conditions. Miss Katherine Hagquist of Austin assisting County Health Nurse Miss Elizabeth Curtis. state and private funds pledged to match a $1,000 county contribution. J Webb Howell of Bryan commits $300 yearly. $700 still needed. The effort is being pitched to civic groups, women’s clubs, commissioners court, and the Chamber of Commerce.

Legislature Concludes Organization as Conservatives Lose Power

In Austin on January 14, both Senate and House completed organization of the Thirty Ninth Legislature. The Senate passed mile age and per diem bills, one for 125000 and another for 40000, without dissent. In the House Ultra Conservatives failed to trim stenographers and pages on the first roll call. Governor Neff urged a state parks system as lawmakers convened. Representative Lee Satterwhite won the speakership after a six vote round, defeating T. K. Irwin and J. W. Hall amid early shifts in power and expectations of upsets under the first woman governor.

Washington January 14 1925 commerce department figures show a favorable trade balance for 1924 of 977 285 000 dollars. The twelve month period ended December 31 1924 reflects a strong surplus in goods and services exported against imports.

Rev J J Tatum Returns From Trip North Texas

Rev J J Tatum returned this morning from an auto trip to Fort Worth Springtown and Weatherford where he as State secretary for the Free Baptist church held mission schools. He visited Rev T H Newsome at Azle and Newsome is convalescing rapidly from a recent serious hay wagon accident. Newsome formerly lived in Kurten and was pastor for Free Baptist churches in Bryan Brazos County.
