She traded butter beans for jars, sold quarts of blackeyed peas for groceries, swapped peas for food, and exchanged corn for wheat ground into flour. The cellar holds pears apples onions and more including eggs and lard.

Sudan grass pasture cheaper than grain for hogs

Experiments by Fred Hale at the Texas Experiment Station show Sudan grass pasture costs far less than grain for growing hogs. Pigs on pasture gained 7 percent faster than on dry lot, needing 11 pounds less grain and 23 pounds less protein supplement per 100 pounds of gain. A one third acre supported 10 pigs, yielding a value of $16.29 per acre in grain and supplement savings.

Gravel Washing Plant Rising Near Smetana Pit

A gravel washing and grading plant is being built near Smetana by Union Paving Company, contractor for Highway 6 from Bryan to College and Highway 21 to the Little Brazos river. Completion is expected in about two weeks, then paving Bryan to College may begin, weather permitting.

A ladies group in the Tabor community learned orchard planting on Tuesday afternoon at Mrs. Roland Crenshaw home. County Agent C. L. Benson and Miss Blanche Brown led a session on placing rooted figs and cuttings. The next demonstration will be held at 1 PM Thursday in the Smetana community.

Funeral Service Thursday Morning For Mrs Vymola

Funeral services for Mrs. Josephine Vymola, 66, will be held Thursday morning at 9:45 from the residence of her daughter Mrs Napoleon Saladiner and at 10 oclock at St Josephs Catholic church. A shipment of pictures of groups the individual seniors and miscellaneous pictures for The Broncho Bryan High annual was sent to the engraver today by Miss Margaret Benson editor of the year book.
