Funeral Service on Monday for J. B. Stevenson
John Brooks Stevenson died at his Oak Grove Avenue home Sunday night from wounds after a shotgun he was repairing discharged. Funeral services were held Monday at his residence under Brazos Union Lodge No. 129 A F and A M with Dr L B Elrod and Rt Rev J B Gleissner officiating. Grave services were by the Masonic Brotherhood at Bryan City Cemetery. He was born March 9 1867 in Westminster Maryland and was 65 years old. He came to Texas in 1882 as a machinist.

Dallas Man Killed In Highway No 6 Crash
Paul Phillips 39 of Dallas died en route to Bryan hospital after a car struck a concrete culvert rail on Highway No 6 near Wellborn. E R Peters of Waco suffered back and neck injuries and remained hospitalized with no broken bones. Both men had been employed at Orange and were en route home when poor visibility caused the accident. Phillips’ body was sent to Dallas on Sunday.

Two Negro Defendants Held for Grand Jury by Judge McGee
Harry Washington charged with assault with intent to murder in the Gus Donatella shooting was held to the grand jury by Justice J T Mc Gee with bond at 800 still unsettled. Seth Holmes also held to the grand jury on a burglary tied to the Jim Darwin store break in. Holmes previously received a five year suspended sentence for liquor transport.

Local RFC Funds Start Work Program For January
City officials began employing men Monday using January relief funds from the Reconstruction Finance Corporation. More than 400 heads of families are on file with County Judge A S McSwain and City Manager R G Williams. Sixty four hundred dollars have been approved for January and February relief work in the city and county. The majority funds will provide work for unemployed men, with a few dependent widows receiving aid.

Lawyer Wins Suit Lets Him Obtain Two Airplanes
SAN BENITO Jan 10 By winning a suit for a client who had left the country J O Prentiss non flying attorney now owns two airplanes. The planes were involved in a dispute between two aviators. The defendant left the region and gave a bill of sale to the attorney, who received possession after the verdict.

Searcy, a well known Bryan and Brazos county figure, is under arrest in Abilene after an indictment for theft of more than 50 dollars. He faces McLennan county charges for stealing six watches from a Waco jeweler, three recovered on his person. Authorities plan to bring him to Waco after Abilene proceedings.

Man of Cameron And Boy Suffer Injuries in Crash
J L Adams age 65 and Taylor Moore age 12 both of Cameron were injured Saturday when Adams car rear end collided with a cotton truck on the Bryan Hearne highway. Adams suffered a broken nose and Moore a gash under an eye. Patrolmen reported a wheel off the pavement caused the stuck truck and the crash was ruled unavoidable due to weather.
